Turkish authorities stated that they are using helicopters and aircraft to spray water over the mountainous areas around İzmir in an effort to extinguish the flames. Some roads leading to the Aegean coastal resort town of Çeşme have been closed. Broadcasters aired scenes of flames spreading along major highways and water tank trucks arriving at the site.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that around 200 homes in the western region have been damaged by the fires, and temporary shelters have been provided to the displaced. As of earlier this week, about 50,000 residents had evacuated due to the fires, which were intensified by high temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds.
Meanwhile, a group calling itself the "Children of Fire" has claimed responsibility for dozens of arson attacks in six cities across Türkiye. In an online statement, the group claimed responsibility for several recent fires, including the current wildfires.
They alleged to be affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is designated as a terrorist organization by the Turkish government and the United States. However, the PKK has not released an official response to this claim. The PKK had previously announced in May that it would end its armed struggle and disband.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. (Psalm 138:7)
God, we hear of the wildfires that have been raging for a week in western Türkiye. Have mercy on those who have lost their homes and families because of the wildfires.
Around 200 homes were damaged and 50,000 residents have evacuated. Lord, touch the broken-hearted who have lost everything in an instant. Despite the dire situation, we pray that You would give them the strength to rise again and set their eyes on the Savior Jesus.
In such situation, a group called the “Children of Fire,” who calls itself to be affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has claimed that they have set the wildfires. Lord, we pray that the Turkish government would not use this claim as a justification to further oppress the Kurdish people. We also pray that the Kurdish people would put their hope in God’s Kingdom first, before seeking national independence.
As many are trying to find the cause of these wildfires, we pray for unity through the gospel. May the Turkish churches and Kurdish churches be reconciled and be united by the love of the cross of Jesus Christ, so that together they may share the gospel and help rebuild the lives of those who have lost their homes.
Let your right hand of salvation be upon the Turkish and Kurdish people and may they rise up as one in Jesus Christ to share the gospel and love to all nations!
