As Lebanon once again becomes entangled in an unwanted war and faces a large-scale refugee crisis, Wissam Nasrallah, president of the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary (ABTS), sent a letter to the community and the international society requesting prayer and practical help for the Middle East.

President Nasrallah urged Christians to face reality without surrendering to fear and to place their hope in the sovereignty and mercy of the living God. He said, “Our hope stands firmly in the living God. He remains sovereign and is close to the brokenhearted. Even when the future feels uncertain, His mercy never wavers.”
He said, “The Psalms do not teach us to deny reality, but to find refuge. The Psalms allow us to trust God even in fear, to grieve honestly, and yet to pray boldly.” He continued, “In moments of upheaval, the instinct of the gospel is not to escape suffering but to move toward it,” adding that “a crisis can become an opportunity that clearly reveals truth, our neighbors, the cost of love, and the true kingdom of God.”
He also emphasized, “For this reason, from the early stage of the conflict ABTS opened its campus and guest house to receive families who had nowhere to go. Together with sister ministry organizations, we are providing meals and support. In a time when so much is being taken away, God’s people must offer space, bread, dignity, prayer, and the simple gift of saying, ‘You are not alone.’”
President Nasrallah said that welcoming refugees is not merely publicity but a Christian testimony that reflects Jesus’ heart, who “did not come to be served but to serve.” At the same time, he emphasized the long-term mission of training leaders for the churches of the Arab world while responding to the urgent refugee crisis. Currently, ABTS is operating all programs online for about 250 students across the Middle East and North Africa while continuing both education and ministry.

He concluded the letter by saying, “At this critical moment, we hope that the gospel will be testified not only through words but through life.”

He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Lord, we hear the news that because of an unwanted war, countless refugees have been created in Lebanon, and that the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary has requested prayer and help.
We believe that You know the fear and suffering of the Lebanese people who have become refugees because of war. God who is near to the brokenhearted, please comfort the refugees.
Rather, may this be a time for the Lebanese people to come to God who is their refuge. Let them rise with faith that trusts in the Lord who faithfully works according to His word.
May they be made whole by the power of Jesus, who is strong when we are weak, and become a people who boast only in the power of Christ.
Especially, please bless the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary that is helping and serving them with the heart of Jesus. Fill them abundantly with resources and material support so that they may serve even more souls, and through their good influence may many Lebanese souls awaken to the gospel.
Raise up the global church that will, like this school, practically help and educate Lebanese refugees, recognize their needs, and remain awake in prayer. Raise up leaders in Lebanon who will awaken the Arab people.
May the Lebanese people become a people who triumph by the power of the gospel, and through Lebanon may we see the work of salvation where all nations return to the Lord.
