Morocco is called “Maghreb” in Arabic, which means west, the direction where the sun sets, and the time when the sun sets. Geographically, it is a land in northwest Africa bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea to the north. However, Morocco has many differences from the commonly thought African regions in terms of religion, climate, language, indigenous people, and culture.
Morocco is a 99.6% Muslim nation and is a “royal state” ruled by a king. The language is Arabic, and the climate is cool in the coastal areas in the summer because it is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, and it snows in the inland areas in the winter because of the Atlas Mountains, giving it a unique charm. Also, before Islam came, the indigenous people of this land were the “Berbers.” However, when Islam began to come in the 7th century, Arabs immigrated, and the Berbers who were Christians at the time all became Islamized.
However, what actually dominates this nation is not orthodox Islam, but secularized Islam, an original Islam that has been transformed into witchcraft.
This is the way Morocco is, but when Ramadan comes, Moroccan Muslims who usually lived in the world decide to correct their lax spiritual situation and live a month of renewing their Islamic faith.
Recently, there is a brother who accepted Jesus. Even though Ramadan has begun, the brother has not been praying or reading the scriptures recently, so his mother asked him, "Have you left Islam?" and the brother was embarrassed and answered firmly, "I am a Muslim."
After that, the brother realized that he had made a great mistake before God as a Christian and suffered. The brother repented for his actions and went home to clearly confess to his mother that he had left Islam and was now a Christian. When the brother's mother heard this, she fainted and the brother was eventually kicked out of the house.
Fortunately, he was able to stay at another MBB brother’s house for a few days, and he is praying to see how this incident will be resolved. We pray that the Lord will do a new work and pour out even more bold faith among the brother’s family and those who confessed their faith.
During Ramadan, there are heartbreaking cases where those who believed in Jesus have abandoned their faith and those who wanted to believe have left because of fear. However, in the midst of these situations, the Moroccan brothers and sisters who believed first are coming to the place of worship, determined to fast and pray for their friends who have left their faith.
We believe that the Lord will do something new during this Ramadan. We pray that all fears will go away during this Ramadan. During Ramadan, when Islam is trying to take the lead spiritually, we need to pray that the brothers and sisters who want to believe in Jesus will not be shaken by any spiritual attacks, but rather that during this Ramadan, all the churches in Morocco will rise up and fulfill the mission of the gospel and become churches that prepare the way for the Lord’s coming. We need to pray that the Lord will use the brothers and sisters of faith in Morocco to begin the holy work of the Lord who will fill the full number of Gentiles.
(Today's Prayer)
1. During Ramadan, may the faith of Moroccan church YG be strengthened and may they be victorious in the spiritual warfare.
2. When the community prepares with fasting, prayer, and the Word to win the spiritual warfare during Ramadan, may the Lord grant them grace and help them make a spiritual breakthrough! 3. There is one month left until the Maghreb Missionary Camp. We need to secure the finances for the Moroccan brothers and sisters to attend the missionary camp during Ramadan. Please guide us so that all the finances are secured with the help of the Lord and we can all go to mission camp together. We especially want those who have been prepared to come to the mission camp. Please give us faith until the end and may all the Moroccan brothers and sisters come to the place that the Lord wants them to be!
