[2023 Ramadan Day 21] Rise up as the living water of the Sahara! God’s Army, Mauritania!

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

Mauritania was officially established as an Islamic Republic in 1960. In other words, since Islam is the state religion, all Mauritanians must be Muslims and follow all the rituals that come with becoming a Muslim. Ramadan is very important to Mauritanians because it is the largest holy day for the Islamic Republic and one of the five pillars of the faith. During Ramadan, Mauritanians become more attached to Islam and have the opportunity to show the rest of the Arab world how pious and religious they are. Everyone in this land has to fast whether they understand why they are doing it or not. There are no exceptions. This is why Ramadan as an Islamic holiday, unites all Mauritanians once a year, regardless of race or language.

All Mauritanians enter the same mosque and pray to Allah, but many of them have a deep sense of despair and a deep resentment against the "Arab Berbers", the establishment that makes up 20~30% of the total population. On February 10th, one of the Mauritanian human rights activists who had been fighting for justice and the rights of the marginalized was tortured and killed by the police. Citizens took to the streets to protest by burning tires, but demonstrations were soon suppressed due to the strong influence and power of the public, and it was no longer possible to demonstrate. The resentful voices crying out of the marginalized class were no longer heard.

Mauritania is desperate for freedom and hope. Many people confess that they have no choice but to simply live in Mauritania. Despite fasting, praying, and showing their faith in Allah to the world, this land is suffering greatly from corruption, hatred, lack of love, and many people suffer from the lie in absolute obedience that is required to make them slaves to religion, and above all, injustice.

Through the unceasing preaching of the gospel, we desire to see the souls of Mauritania during this time of Ramadan to be delivered from the domain of darkness and be transferred to the kingdom of the beloved Son.

[Today’s Prayer]

1. Please pray for the souls in Mauritania who are willing to commit to Allah during this time of Ramadan to find the genuine truth in Jesus Christ. For these souls to see the lie of Islam, come out of their lives of despair and come before the Kingdom of God.

2. For the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ that sets the captive free and comforts the broken hearted to cover this nation and for these people to rise with the life of Jesus Christ.
