[Today’s Prayer] Afghanistan: “Kabul hospital bombed, 400 dead”… Pakistan denies as “false”

The Afghan Taliban government has claimed that Pakistan carried out an airstrike on a hospital in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, causing hundreds of casualties. Pakistan has denied the claim, calling it false.

According to Reuters on the 17th (local time), the Afghan government stated that around 9 p.m. the previous night, a rehabilitation hospital for drug addicts in Kabul with about 2,000 beds was attacked by a Pakistani airstrike.

Afghan government spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said that a large portion of the hospital was destroyed in the strike and that there are concerns about massive casualties, with at least 400 people dead and 250 injured so far.

According to local witnesses, the site of the airstrike shows single-story buildings burned and blackened, with some structures collapsed into rubble. Rescue teams are reportedly searching through the debris for survivors and bodies.

One ambulance driver told Reuters, “When I arrived, everything was on fire,” adding, “I received another call early in the morning telling me to come back because there were bodies under the rubble.”

Meanwhile, the Pakistani government dismissed the claims as “false and inaccurate reporting.” Pakistan countered that the strike “precisely targeted military facilities and terrorist support infrastructure.”

The conflict between the two countries began last month when Pakistan launched airstrikes on bases of the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) inside Afghanistan, claiming that Afghanistan was providing safe haven to militants attacking Pakistan.

The Taliban denied this, saying the issue is an internal matter of Pakistan. Since then, both sides have exchanged airstrikes and retaliatory attacks, escalating the conflict. The dispute between the two countries, which share a border of about 2,600 km, is considered one of the worst in history.

“…to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba, Father.’” (Galatians 4:5–6)

God, as we hear the news that Pakistan carried out an airstrike on a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan, leaving 400 dead and hundreds injured, while Pakistan denies that it targeted civilian facilities and claims it is a false accusation, and as the conflict between both sides continues to escalate,

As the Taliban’s ambitions extend beyond Afghanistan toward Pakistan, leading to retaliatory warfare and causing suffering among people across the border regions, we ask that You have mercy on them and visit them at this time with Your comfort.

In the midst of Pakistan and Afghanistan, where both sides continue to refute each other’s claims and do not cease from retaliation, we pray that the conflict would stop and that the reign of Jesus Christ, the Savior of peace, would come upon them.

Even during the season of Ramadan, we pray that the darkness that causes endless division would depart, and that You would pour out the Spirit of Jesus Christ upon those whose hearts have become poor, so that Pakistan and Afghanistan would call upon God as “Abba, Father” and worship Him as the God of truth.

Let the global Church serve the souls of Pakistan and Afghanistan with the heart of God and proclaim the gospel of the peace of Jesus Christ.

And through this, let Pakistan and Afghanistan become nations that inherit the nations as their inheritance with the authority of being children of God!
