[Today’s Prayer] Indonesian youth converted from drug dealer, shouts the gospel in Muslim stronghold
On the 11th, the Voice of the Martyrs of Korea (VOMK, CEO Pastor Hyun Sook Foley) introduced the story of an Indonesian seeker who escaped the world of drugs and spread Jesus while living in a ‘gospel wasteland.’
The main character of the story is Mehfri Mas (alias), a young Indonesian man. According to information obtained by VOMK from a missionary in Indonesia, Mas, a former drug dealer, is known to be preaching the gospel in areas where many Muslims live. He is said to have accepted Christ while reading the Bible in prison. After his release, he began working in places such as Mindanao in the Philippines.
His life was eventful. In his early 20s, while being chased by the police for selling drugs, he enrolled in a Bible school and went into hiding. He was eventually arrested and imprisoned, but he converted while serving his sentence. After being released, he re-entered the Bible school he had enrolled at previously and studied the Bible for two years. Afterwards, he assisted with the ministry of a house church on the island of Mindanao, known as a stronghold of radical Muslims.
Mr. Mas said, “Not many Christians want to go to Mindanao, so that actually became a challenge.” He moved his ministry to the Indonesian island of Borneo, developed friendships with Muslim students, and established a drug prevention group to prevent the next generation from falling into the world of drugs that once ensnared him. Mr. Mas said, “I am trying to follow and imitate Jesus, who is the example of my life. I think I have now accepted persecution as a part of life,” he said.
