[Today’s Prayer] France, House of Representatives passes constitutional amendment to ‘guarantee freedom of abortion’

In France, a constitutional amendment bill guaranteeing freedom of abortion was passed with overwhelming approval in the House of Representatives on the 30th (local time).

According to the Associated Press and the Guardian, the French House of Representatives on this day passed a bill specifying the ‘guarantee of freedom of abortion’ in the constitution with 493 votes in favor and 30 against.

The majority, including President Emmanuel Macron's centrist minority coalition and left-wing opposition lawmakers, voted in favor.

The French Senate is scheduled to begin discussing this constitutional amendment around the 28th of next month, and after the Senate approves the constitutional amendment, the constitution will be amended if it receives the approval of more than three-fifths of the registered members in a national referendum or joint vote of both houses.

However, passage of the bill in the Senate is uncertain as some conservative Republican lawmakers, the majority party in the Senate, are opposed to it.

After the Senate approves a constitutional amendment, the Constitution is amended if it is approved by more than three-fifths of the registered members in a national referendum or a joint vote of both houses. France has legally allowed abortion since 1975, and it was President Macron's pledge to specify this in the constitution.

This was also pursued in 2022, but the bill was scrapped due to differences in opinion between the Senate and House of Representatives.

”who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.“ ‭‭(Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭25‬)

Heavenly Father, the ruler of all life, we hear the news that a constitutional amendment guaranteeing freedom of abortion in France has been passed with overwhelming approval in the House of Representatives.

It is said that discussion on this constitutional amendment will begin in the Senate on the 28th of next month, and if more than three-fifths of the votes are in favor, the Constitution will be amended.

During the short discussion period remaining, please help the world church wake up and pray so that this abortion bill, which does not value life in the name of human rights and freedom, is not enacted into the Constitution.

We pray that the churches of Europe, along with the French church, will be restored in their faith in Jesus Christ, who was given over for our sins and rose again for our justification.

In these last days, when worldly theories and evil laws that stand against God are rampant, help us to love only Jesus purely.

Please help countless churches that love Jesus rise up and be able to carry out the Great Commission of the Lord and prepare for His return.

May Jesus Christ who died for the lives of all on the cross be exalted.
