[Today’s Prayer] 22 killed in floods, landslides in northeast India as monsoon season begins

Dozens of people are dying from landslides and floods in northeastern India, where the monsoon season has begun, as heavy rains have continued for several days, the Hindustan Times and other media outlets reported on the 1st.

According to them, five people died the day before when a landslide occurred in Guwahati, Assam, burying their houses. In addition, in Arunachal Pradesh, which borders China, seven people were killed when a car was swept away by floods on the 30th of last month.

According to an official report by the Indian authorities, 22 people were killed in the northeastern region of India in the 24 hours from the afternoon of the 30th to the afternoon of the 31st of last month, with deaths also occurring due to floods and landslides in Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya, the Associated Press reported.

As the heavy rains continued, some areas in Assam cut off electricity to prevent electrocution, and schools were closed as a result.
