[Today’s Prayer] “Abraham Accords to Be Restored?”… Bahrain Accepts Israeli Ambassador Again After Two Years

Bahrain, which had cut ties with Israel following the Gaza war between Israel and the Palestinian militant faction Hamas, has begun seeking to restore relations by receiving Israel’s ambassador again after two years.

On the 27th (local time), Reuters reported—citing Bahrain’s state-run BNA—that Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani accepted the credentials of Shmuel Revel, Israel’s ambassador to Bahrain.

Bahrain, a key pro-U.S. monarchy in the Middle East and host to the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, had long refused formal diplomatic ties with Israel due to opposition to its Gaza policies. But in 2020, under the mediation of then-U.S. President Donald Trump, Bahrain signed the “Abraham Accords,” normalizing relations with Israel alongside the UAE.

However, after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and Israel began its invasion of Gaza, Bahrain recalled its ambassador from Israel and suspended all economic ties.

At the time, Bahrain’s National Assembly, equivalent to its lower house, explained that the recall was “a measure to support the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”

Following the credential ceremony, Minister Al Zayani welcomed the new ambassador at a reception and wished him success in his diplomatic mission, according to BNA.

Lord, we hear the news that Bahrain, which had cut ties with Israel after the Gaza war with Hamas, has now received Israel’s ambassador again after two years, signaling a possible restoration of the Abraham Accords signed in 2020.

Though Bahrain had stood on the side of Palestine during Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza, suspending all economic relations, now that it has moved to restore ties with Israel, we see how the war that once seemed balanced is tilting toward Israel, and we recognize, Lord, that You are sovereign over these developments.

You have promised that those who hope in the Lord and keep Your way will inherit the land. Now, as the time comes for the evil acts of Hamas—who have ruled Gaza at their own will—to be cut off, may the global church press even more earnestly into prayer for Israel, Palestine, Bahrain, and the wider Middle East.

When Gaza’s system of rule changes and the lives of its people are transformed, raise up Arab believers who will serve Gaza with the heart of Jesus Christ and teach the ways of Your Kingdom.

May the days bound to earthly land and territory be broken through the gospel of the cross, and may grace be shared as You grant the nations as an inheritance and establish the Kingdom of God—so that Gaza may know true shalom in the Lord.

And so, let the covenant of Isaiah 19 be fulfilled in the Arab world. According to Your Word, restore Israel, Palestine, and the Middle East, and hasten the day of the Lord’s return!
