[Today’s Prayer] 8 dead after mountain of garbage collapses in Uganda's capital
A garbage hill collapsed after heavy rain in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, killing eight residents.
According to Independent Uganda on the 10th (local time), authorities in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, announced that the landfill in Wakiso District, central Uganda, collapsed due to structural defects.
"Sadly, to date, eight people, six adults and two children, have been found dead," the Uganda Disease Control Center said.
According to authorities, the collapse occurred after heavy rains earlier in the day.
Authorities noted that 14 people were rescued together with police, relevant departments and the Red Cross. Police spokesman Patrick Onyango added that three other people were rescued by civilians.
Wakiso Landfill is a place where waste from five regions in Kampala is collected. Although it was initially designed to collect small amounts of trash, it is said to be receiving up to 2,000 tons of trash every day.

because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful[b] one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. (Psalm 16:10-11)
Lord, we hear heartbreaking news from the Ugandan capital that a garbage hill collapsed after heavy rains, killing eight residents.
It was originally designed to collect a small amount of trash, but as it receives up to 2,000 tons of trash every day, you realize that it was an accident.
God, comfort the families of those who tragically died, and have compassion on the souls of the region.
Please help us to resolve the structural flaws as soon as possible and protect us so that this will never happen again.
Pour out your Holy Spirit upon the African churches you have left behind, and pour out your Father's heart that we may go out to them and preach your comfort and the gospel of the kingdom of heaven.
That the souls of Uganda may not be discouraged by the news of death, but may look to the eternal heavenly hope in Jesus Christ and praise the Lord who will never abandon our souls to the gates of hell.
And so raise up our feeble knees and make them rise as testifiers of the name of Jesus, following the path of eternal life that You have shown us, with everlasting joy!
