[Field Story] 14 Jordanians killed, 17 missing during pilgrimage to Mecca

Jordan's state-run news agency PETRA reported on the 16th (local time) that 14 Jordanian citizens died during the regular pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca and Medina, Saudi Arabia, the holiest sites in Islam.

Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Consular Affairs said in a statement that 14 of its citizens were killed during the Hajj and 17 others were missing.

The details of the death and disappearance have not yet been disclosed.

Ambassador Sufian Kudah, head of the consulate, said, “We will handle the issue of burying or transporting the bodies of the deceased as soon as possible in cooperation with Saudi authorities,” and added, “Follow-up measures related to the search for missing persons are in progress.”

Hajj, held every year from December 7 to 12 in the Islamic calendar, is one of the five major duties that Muslims must perform and is the most sacred religious ritual.

As many people gather in a limited area, large-scale stampedes sometimes occur.

In addition, in recent years, as the summer solstice period overlaps with summer, there have been reports of deaths from cardiovascular disease and heatstroke due to heat waves that rise to 45 degrees.

Lord, have mercy on these Jordanian souls who have travelled all the way to Saudi Arabia and died in vain because of the false truth.

Lord, you who loves Jordan, we ask you to pour out on this nation a spirit of repentance that leads to the forgiveness of sins.

By Your Spirit, may those who were captive to the spirit of Islam and headed for death, see Jesus Christ and believe with their hearts.

May the souls of Jordan fall on their knees in repentance before the love of Jesus Christ, who died to save us from our sins, and may they be saved from this rebellious generation.

Pour out your promised Holy Spirit upon this nation, that they may become the Jordan of witnesses for Jesus Christ to all souls who, like themselves, are captive to false truths!

And use Jordan as a way of life to bring all the dying nations to Jesus Christ!
