Myanmar's military government recently announced a policy of forced conscription as it faced a crisis due to strong attacks by ethnic armed groups.

The military government announced on the 10th that it would implement the Military Service Act, which mandates two years of military service for men aged 18 to 35 and women aged 18 to 27.

On the 14th, it was further announced that conscription would begin after the New Year festival in mid-April, the biggest holiday, and that 60,000 people would be enlisted every year.

Military government spokesman Cho Min Tun explained that out of Myanmar's population of 56 million, 14 million people, including 6.3 million men and 7.7 million women, are eligible for military service.

If you avoid conscription, you will be subject to 3 to 5 years in prison and a fine.

As a result, many young people are leaving overseas, raising the prospect that the exodus of local people that has continued since the military coup in February 2021 will intensify.

”While he was still speaking, someone from the ruler’s house came and said, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more.” (Luke 8:49)

Loving God, With the military coup in 2021 already in its fourth year, we hear that the Myanmar military regime has recently decided to forcibly conscript young people.

Recently, as the country faced a crisis due to strong attacks by ethnic armed groups, it announced a policy of compulsory conscription, mandating military service for men aged 18 to 35 and women aged 18 to 27, and saying that those who avoid conscription will face 3 to 5 years in prison and a fine.

Please have mercy on the young people of Myanmar who continue to die and live without hope amid the ongoing military coup situation.

To avoid forced conscription, many young people in Myanmar are trying to leave the country and go abroad, but I believe that it is only the blood of the cross that can change this country and people.

Please change this land as the youth of Myanmar who pray to God in faith without fear.

Please do not let the military coup get any worse and stop all conflicts through the power of the Gospel.

May they become a generation of Myanmar youth who proclaim the name of the Lord and prepare the way for the Lord’s return!
