The World Food Program (WFP), a UN-affiliated relief agency, announced on the 5th (local time) that it would cut off food aid to the northern region dominated by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, which has been devastated by civil war. It is expected that millions of aid recipients will suffer greatly.

“This difficult decision was made after consulting with donors. After almost a year of negotiations, we tried to reduce the number of people receiving aid from 9.5 million to 6.5 million, but no agreement was reached at all,” WFP said in a statement.

Yemen's civil war between the Iran-backed Houthi rebels and pro-government forces backed by the Persian Gulf League of Arab States has continued for eight years . As a result of the ongoing civil war, 150,000 people have lost their lives and 3 million became refugees.

The announcement to halt aid came after Houthi forces recently launched attacks in the Red Sea in support of Hamas fighting Israel, by attacking ships passing through the world's most important maritime route.

The stored food that WFP has in Houthi-occupied areas is now almost completely depleted, and even if food aid were to be resumed by immediate agreement, it would take up to four months for relief food to be delivered due to the destruction of supply channels, WFP said.

He also said that food distribution to government-run areas will continue, but "from now on, we will focus on distributing food only to the most vulnerable families."

Lord, may your hand protect the Yemeni souls from hunger and cold and open the way for them to receive the help they need to sustain their lives.

Beyond humanitarian aid, please save the souls of Yemen with the power of Jesus Christ, who is life.
