[Today's Prayer] Turkiye's Largest TV News Broadcast Seized... Allegations of Fraud, Tax Evasion, and Money Laundering

Turkish media reported on the 11th that one of Turkiye's largest TV news broadcasters was seized by the state as part of an investigation into fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering.

Turkish media, including the state-run Anadolu Agency, reported that Haberturk Broadcasting, one of 121 companies under Khan Holding, was seized and transferred to the state-run Savings Deposit Insurance Fund. Broadcaster Show TV was also seized.

Arrest warrants were also issued for 10 individuals, including senior executives from Khan Holding. Khan Holding Group encompasses a wide range of businesses in media, education, energy, hotels, healthcare, construction, and logistics.

Investigators said, "Large amounts of money of unknown origin were funneled through companies under Khan Holding, and these funds were transferred between companies to conceal their origins. They are also accused of using forged documents to reduce tax burdens."

The prosecution added that some of Khan Holding's activities were "directly funded by criminal proceeds."

Like most media outlets in Turkiye, Haberturk has generally supported President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government. The broadcaster was operating normally until the morning of the 11th.

According to Reporters Without Borders' 2024 Press Freedom Index, Turkiye ranked 158th out of 180 countries. Reporters Without Borders states that approximately 90% of the Turkish media is under government influence.

Despite being a broadcaster that has largely supported President Erdogan, the seizure is being carried out. Analysts are suggesting that this is not simply an accusation, but rather an attempt to place the Turkish media under the government's influence. May the Lord answer the cry of the Turkish souls, especially at times like these.

Now, when the media is unable to speak truthfully and instead distorts the thoughts of Turkish souls, homogenizing them within Islam and solidifying President Erdogan's power, may the Turkish churches proclaim the gospel more than ever and reveal God's righteous wrath.

May the global church also firmly criticize the Turkish government's arbitrary actions from a biblical perspective and seek true freedom in truth to be unleashed in Turkiye.

May we pray more for and support the continuation of gospel broadcasting in Turkiye. May the Lord ensure uninterrupted evangelism, so that more Turkish souls may hear the gospel and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord.
