U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent an ultimatum to the Palestinian armed group Hamas. They presented not only a short-term plan for the complete dismantling of Hamas, but also a long-term vision for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip under the international community's interim rule.
On the 29th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump presented a peace plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and told Hamas to accept it within three days or face annihilation.
The "Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict," released by the White House, includes a provision for Hamas to return all hostages, dead or alive, within 72 hours of Israel's public acceptance of the agreement.
If Hamas complies, Israel will release 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 Gazans imprisoned since Hamas launched its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
It also included provisions for amnesty to Hamas members who agreed to disarmament, and safe passage to host countries for members who wish to leave the Gaza Strip.
President Trump's plan is a final warning to Hamas to withdraw from Gaza and disappear.
The plan warned of further military action if Hamas delayed or rejected the offer, saying security and aid would be provided only in areas where Israeli forces had cleared terrorist elements.
In relation to this, President Trump announced his intention to formalize his support for the war to destroy Hamas, saying, "I will fully support Israel in completing its mission."
Hamas has not yet stated its position on this proposal, but experts generally believe it will not be able to accept a demand that amounts to "giving up its existence."
The Palestinian Authority (PA), which has been competing with Hamas for control of Palestine, expressed support for the peace plan proposed by the United States and Israel.
The comprehensive plan includes not only short-term pressure on Hamas, but also a long-term vision, including the reconstruction of the post-war Gaza Strip.
When the war ends, Gaza will be governed by a temporary, non-political "Palestinian Council" of Palestinians and international experts.
The United States will establish an interim International Stabilization Force (ISF) in cooperation with Arab and other partner countries, and assign it the role of maintaining security and border security in the Gaza Strip, as well as preventing the inflow of military supplies.
Israel agreed not to occupy or annex the Gaza Strip, but to gradually transfer the Gaza territory currently occupied by Israeli forces to the ISF.
Once the agreement is reached, aid and recovery efforts in the Gaza Strip by relief organizations and others will fully resume.
Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his support for the proposal at a press conference held immediately after his summit with President Trump.
The international community, including Europe and the Arab world, also expressed its welcome for the peace plan, which was unveiled through press conferences and planning documents.
However, experts who have dealt with Middle East issues point out that this peace plan is not much different from previous proposals that Hamas has consistently rejected throughout the war.
"The U.S. can expect Hamas to refuse," said Arnel Seline, a researcher at the Quincy Institute who resigned from the State Department in protest of U.S. policy in the Gaza Strip. "If Hamas refuses, they will use it to point out Palestinians as an obstacle to peace in the future."
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people (Ephesians 1:17-18)
We hear that President Trump of the United States has presented Hamas with a peace proposal for the Gaza Strip and issued an ultimatum. It is reported that he stated Hamas must accept this proposal within three days or prepare for annihilation.
Lord, we pray for peace in the Gaza Strip. Have mercy on the souls of Gaza who have suffered through war for over two long years.
If Hamas does not accept the plan devised by the United States and Israel for peace in Gaza, war could erupt once more. Lord, guide us so that true peace may come to Gaza. Grant not a false peace imposed by worldly rule, but let the eternal Kingdom of God reign in Gaza.
Allow the Israeli-Palestinian Church may discern God's will for the Gaza Strip. May it become a church that prays with one heart for the Kingdom of God to come in Gaza. May it proclaim to the souls of Gaza how great the joy will be in God's Kingdom.
Protect Gaza with Your hand, Lord, so it does not become prey for Hamas or other world powers. Guide Hamas to accept the American peace plan for the sake of peace in Gaza.
Through this peace plan, grant that the hostages held captive by war may safely return to their families. Thus, may the war of killing and being killed end, and may we see eternal shalom come upon Israel and Palestine!
