U.S.-based Christian Daily International (CDI) reported on May 7 (local time) that controversy surrounding allegations of forced religious conversion in Pakistan is rising again. After a local court questioned the official birth records of a girl from a Christian family and ordered medical testing to determine her real age, the case has entered a new phase.

Sonia’s family claims that she is currently a 15-year-old minor, but Sonia herself insists that she is 20 years old and voluntarily converted to Islam.

This case is expanding beyond a simple family dispute into an international controversy involving religious freedom, women’s and children’s rights, and forced conversion issues. In particular, concerns are growing again among Pakistan’s minority Christian communities that underage girls are repeatedly being exposed to the risks of forced conversion and child marriage.
CDI reported that Sonia’s family claims she had been under pressure to convert since she was a minor. According to attorney Jillani, Sonia began working at a beauty salon in Lahore, Punjab Province, Pakistan, around the age of 13, where she allegedly faced pressure to convert to Islam.

Meanwhile, the international Christian watchdog organization Open Doors ranked Pakistan as the 8th most difficult country in the world for Christians to live in on its 2026 World Watch List.

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.” — Isaiah 9:2
Heavenly Father, we hear the news that controversy has arisen again in Pakistan regarding allegations of the forced conversion of a girl from a Christian family.
Lord, please have mercy on our sister Sonia, who has been separated from her family and from Your embrace because of forced conversion. May she remember Jesus, who is the Truth and who still loves her, and may she return once again into Your arms.
Please also remember not only Sonia, but all our Pakistani brothers and sisters in faith who suffer daily under pressure to convert by force. Even in every hardship and persecution, may they rely on You alone and continue forward in faith.
Pour out one spirit upon the church communities in Pakistan so that they may intercede for brothers and sisters who keep their faith despite persecution. May they go forth with the Gospel beyond suffering, running toward their neighbors and all nations.
May the global Church also partner more deeply in prayer for the Pakistani Church and go forth carrying the Gospel into Pakistan. Shine the great light of Jesus Christ upon the souls of Pakistan who are living under darkness and the shadow of death, and through the Gospel, grant hope and life to the lost souls of Pakistan.
And through this, may the final weapons of the Kingdom of God arise in Pakistan to carry out the holy final battle, proclaiming the holy name of Jesus Christ to all nations!
