[Today's Prayer] Over 90 Students Estimated to Be Buried in Indonesian Boarding School Collapse

AFP reported on the 1st (local time) that 91 people are believed to be trapped in the collapse of an Islamic boarding school on the Indonesian island of Java.

Abdul Muhari, a spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, said in a statement on the 30th, "Based on student attendance data, we estimate that 91 people are trapped under the rubble."

On the 29th, the Al Kozini Islamic Boarding School collapsed during expansion work in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. According to local media, students were gathered in the school building for afternoon prayers at the time of the accident.

Rescue teams are focusing on providing life support to survivors trapped under the rubble, while dozens of parents are gathered nearby, waiting for rescue, AFP reported.

"The main structure has completely collapsed," said Amy Frieser, the National Search and Rescue Organization's operations chief. "Our top priority is to rescue those who can still respond," she said, adding that the search is currently focused on seven areas where signs of life have been detected.
