[Today’s Prayer] One French soldier killed in attack by pro-Iran armed group in Iraq

After the outbreak of armed conflict between the United States–Israel and Iran, the first fatality has occurred among French forces stationed in the Middle East.

According to the daily newspaper Le Monde and others, a drone attack on a French military base resulted in 1 French soldier killed and 5 injured. Since the Iran crisis began on the 28th of last month, this is the first time that a death has occurred among European troops stationed in the Middle East.

The pro-Iran Iraqi armed group Ashab al-Kahf said in a Telegram statement early that morning, “Starting tonight, all French assets in Iraq and the region will be targets of attack,” and warned residents to stay at least 500 meters away from French military bases.

The group has been raising the level of its warning by referring to France’s deployment of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the eastern Mediterranean. France recently deployed the Charles de Gaulle near the Middle East in order to protect its citizens in the region and defend its allies.

France is stationed in Iraq as part of the international coalition led by the United States to defeat ISIS. In Erbil, in the Kurdish autonomous region in northern Iraq, French forces are training the Iraqi military and the Peshmerga (the military organization of the Kurdish Regional Government).

We hear the tragic news that as the war between the United States–Israel and Iran draws the entire Middle East into conflict, casualties have now occurred among European forces stationed in the region.

As the pro-Iran Iraqi armed group Ashab al-Kahf carried out a drone attack on French forces in Iraq, we pray that the Lord will intervene so that this incident does not lead to retaliation from Europe.

Even though the region of Iraq cannot remain free from the effects of the war with Iran, please protect the souls of Iraq and grant God’s power to the weak so that they may live.

So that Iraq and the Middle East may be freed from war, be restored through Jesus Christ, and become nations that prepare the way for the return of the Lord.
