The number of deaths caused by dengue fever in Bangladesh has surpassed 400 this year.

According to Reuters and other news outlets on the 1st (local time), between January and October this year, 418 people died from dengue fever in Bangladesh, while 133,000 were hospitalized and received treatment. After 148 people died from dengue fever in September alone, the death toll increased further to 173 last month, with the sharp rise continuing.

There are also concerns that the cumulative number of deaths caused by measles, which is spreading alongside dengue fever, has surpassed 1,200, already exceeding the capacity of Bangladesh's healthcare system.

Dengue fever is a disease transmitted through the bite of mosquitoes carrying the virus. It causes symptoms such as fever and severe headaches and can lead to life-threatening complications in serious cases. Doctors in Bangladesh have reported that many dengue patients have recently been admitted to hospitals only after developing serious complications.

(Excerpt)

Experts say that it is unlikely the number of dengue-related deaths in Bangladesh will continue increasing at the same rate as last month, which recorded the highest monthly death toll. However, they expect infections to continue spreading throughout this month.

Kabirul Bashar, an entomologist and professor in the Department of Zoology at Jahangirnagar University in Bangladesh, said, "Mosquitoes will continue emerging from breeding grounds formed by rainfall. Although the situation may ease somewhat, dengue fever will not disappear this month."

"Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, until He has mercy upon us." (Psalm 123:2)

We hear the news that 400 people in Bangladesh have lost their lives to dengue fever, while 133,000 people have been hospitalized and received treatment.

Lord, please have mercy on the people of Bangladesh who are suffering from dengue fever and measles. Grant Your power and renewed strength to the medical workers in Bangladesh who are struggling tirelessly to treat so many people.

May the Bangladeshi government devote itself to mosquito control efforts to prevent the spread of the dengue virus, so that the rate of dengue infections will quickly decrease. Even as experts predict that dengue fever will not disappear this month, please heal all those infected with dengue fever in Bangladesh and completely eradicate the source of this disease.

As the people of Bangladesh look to Jesus, who has overcome even death, and seek His mercy, may every soul in Bangladesh receive the grace of salvation.

May local churches in Bangladesh proclaim the Gospel even in areas where dengue fever is rampant. May they reach out to those who are unable to receive proper medical care due to underdeveloped healthcare facilities, healing every disease and testifying to Jesus, the Lord and Giver of life.

May the global church also be moved with compassion as it sees Bangladesh's healthcare system struggling to cope with this situation, and may it send medical missionaries.

Furthermore, as medical supplies in Bangladesh become scarce due to the ongoing treatment of dengue patients, may Bangladesh seek assistance from neighboring countries, and may Your helping hand be revealed through the service and support of the global church.

In this way, may Bangladesh become a nation that trusts in Jesus, its Lord, and proclaims the grace of salvation that He will bestow among all nations!
