[Today’s Prayer] More than 300 people died due to northern Afghanistan floods... Emergency has been declared

The number of deaths due to recent flooding in northern Afghanistan has increased to about 300.

The Ministry of Refugees said this was the result of a tally through the Baghlan provincial office, adding that the number of injured was about 1,600.

The Afghan Interior Ministry previously said the death toll was 153 and could rise further.

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) Afghanistan office announced to AFP the previous day that the number of deaths in Baghlan Province was 311.

The WFP Afghanistan office added that about 2,000 houses were completely destroyed and 2,800 were partially damaged in Baghlan Province.

Afghan Minister of Economy Dean Mohammad Hanif issued a statement today and appealed to the United Nations, humanitarian organizations, and private companies to provide support to the affected areas.

The Afghan Ministry of National Defense declared a state of emergency in the affected areas and began rescuing the injured and stranded residents while supplying food and medicine to the victims.

The Air Force announced that it had sent about 100 injured people to hospitals using helicopters.

The International Rescue Committee ( IRC ), an international humanitarian relief organization, said it was preparing to provide aid to Afghanistan, and said the floods should serve as a "wake-up call" for world leaders and donors not to forget Afghanistan, which has been devastated by decades of conflict and natural disasters.

AFP explained that, Afghanistan is a country that is very vulnerable to climate change, stating that Afghanistan's winters are relatively dry, so when heavy rain suddenly falls in the spring, the ground cannot absorb it, which causes flooding.

Abundantly cover this land with knowledge of the Lord, that is suffering from news of death, and through Christ, allow the kingdom of the LORD to be wholly upon this place.

So that all the pain may be washed away by the blood and words of Jesus, overcoming death and restoring Afghanistan to praise the name of the Lord!
