[Today’s Prayer] Kyrgyzstan Fears Soaring Fuel Prices Due to Reduced Russian Supply

ree

Central Asian country Kyrgyzstan expressed concern that it may face a sharp increase in fuel prices because of a decrease in Russian fuel supply following Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries.

According to Reuters on the 24th, Deputy Head of the Kyrgyz Antimonopoly Regulation Agency, Syrgak Omorov, stated that domestic fuel prices could surge by about 15% within a few weeks due to the reduced Russian supply.

Omorov added that this represents a domino effect caused by Ukraine's repeated drone attacks on Russian oil refineries.

He added that the government is cooperating with Russian oil company Rosneft and others to prevent fuel price increases.

Since August, Ukraine has intensified its attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure, including oil refineries.

As a result, Russia's refining capacity has reportedly plummeted as much as 20% in recent weeks.

Kyrgyzstan, which imports a large amount of Russian fuel, is facing an unexpected situation.

Kyrgyz government officials stated that domestic fuel inventories currently only cover a month's supply.

Some refineries in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, temporarily ran out of gasoline this week.

The fuel shortage comes at a sensitive time, just ahead of next month’s general elections - a political concern for the Kyrgyz government, as rising fuel prices could worsen public sentiment.

According to official Kyrgyz figures, gasoline prices have surged 8.8% since January, and diesel prices have risen 6.3%.

Meanwhile, neighboring Kazakhstan has imposed strict price controls on fuel and utilities to curb inflation triggered by the war in Ukraine.

Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. (Psalm 119:5-6)

God, we see that because of Ukraine’s attacks on Russia’s oil refineries, Kyrgyzstan may now face soaring fuel prices.

Currently, the nation has only about a month’s worth of fuel reserves, and some gas stations in Bishkek have already run out of gasoline.

We believe, Lord, that You do not delight in seeing one nation’s conflict bring hardship to another, nor in people suffering as a result of ongoing hostilities and retaliation.

Have mercy on Russia and Ukraine as they continue to live in fear amid long-standing conflict and attacks. May the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ be poured out among these nations instead of further pain and revenge.

Furthermore, we pray for Kyrgyzstan, which is facing not only economic hardship but also anxiety about an uncertain future and fear of ever-rising prices. May they come before You, the God who hears and answers all our prayers and provides comfort.

Let the love and healing of Jesus fill the deep wounds caused by conflict. May the nations repent and seek Your help, turning to the love of Christ who forgives and makes righteous.

Awaken the church in Kyrgyzstan to pray for Russia and Ukraine during this time, and stir the global church to intercede and serve all nations caught in conflict.

Raise up nations that fear God and choose to live according to His Word.

May Kyrgyzstan rise in this time, not seeking the things of this world that perish, but the things of heaven and become a nation that prays for all peoples and seeks Your kingdom first.
