[Today’s Prayer] Israeli media: “Sinwar demands guarantee of life as a condition for ceasefire”

Israeli media Ynet reported on the 21st (local time) that Yahya Shinwar, the top political leader of the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, demanded guarantee of his life as a condition for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

According to reports, during a recent dialogue between ceasefire mediators, an Egyptian official told the United States, "Sinwar insists that his safety and life be guaranteed."

Ynet explained that this means that Israel must promise not to assassinate Shinwar after a ceasefire is agreed.

On the 15th and 16th, in Doha, Qatar, mediation countries such as the United States, Egypt, and Qatar prepared a ceasefire and hostage release mediation plan and delivered it to Israel and Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken on the 19th and announced his intention to accept the mediation plan.

However, Hamas, which did not participate in the negotiations at the time, rejected the mediation plan, saying, "The differences have not been resolved, and Prime Minister Netanyahu is adding more conditions to further complicate (the negotiations)."

Sinwar was elected as the head of Hamas after Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas' political bureau, was murdered in Tehran, Iran, on the 31st of last month.

He designed and led Hamas' surprise attack on Israel on October 7 last year and is considered Israel's number one target. It is believed that he has been hiding in Hamas' tunnels in the Gaza Strip since the outbreak of war.
