[Today’s Prayer] “Iran’s power split into factions; system led by the Revolutionary Guard maintained”

Amid a stalemate in U.S.–Iran end-of-war negotiations, an analysis has emerged that Iran’s power is divided into four factions with differing characteristics. Iran International, an opposition media outlet based in the UK, reported on the 2nd (local time) that signs of internal division over strategy are being detected within Iran.

After the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had mediated conflicts among the factions, it is said that infighting has arisen within the military, which has taken control of real power, over how to maintain the regime. Since the new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since his selection and has not been able to replace his father’s role as mediator, power appears to have become concentrated in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the report, the IRGC, led by newly appointed Commander-in-Chief Ahmad Vahidi, has effectively taken control of the core functions of the state.

Iran International analyzed the current power structure in Iran as consisting of four axes.

While each faction agrees on the overarching principle of maintaining the regime, they are clearly divided on methods such as whether to negotiate, how to respond to escalation, and how to enforce ideological control.

Some analysts suggest that Iran is even using these internal fractures as a negotiation card. While publicly denying division, it maintains ambiguity over who the ultimate decision-maker is, thereby increasing uncertainty for its negotiating counterparts.

O God, as Your name reaches to the ends of the earth, so does Your praise; Your right hand is filled with righteousness. Because of Your judgments, Mount Zion rejoices, and the daughters of Judah are glad. (Psalm 48:10–11)

We hear that after the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Revolutionary Guard, which has taken real power, has split into four factions, leading to internal conflict. It is also said that even this internal fracture is being used as a negotiation tool, as they deny division while leaving the ultimate decision-maker unclear, thereby increasing uncertainty for negotiating counterparts.

Lord, in the midst of the stalemate in U.S.–Iran negotiations, have mercy on the people of Iran who are living without a clear leader.

By Your right hand, break every system that holds Iran, and free it from the Islamic system that opposes God, so that the people of Iran may rejoice. May Jesus take hold of Iran’s rulers and guide them to govern Iran under His hand.

Let the Iranian church rise up to proclaim the eternal Kingdom of God and lead the people of Iran to the Lord. By the help of the Holy Spirit, let Iranian believers rejoice and be glad because of Your judgments.

May Islam be swiftly judged by Your righteousness, so that Iran may become a nation that praises the name of Jesus to the ends of the earth, and let the global church join together in prayer for this.

And so, may the people of Iran rise as a people who fill the nations with Your righteousness and proclaim the final day of the Lord’s judgment to all nations.
