[Today’s Prayer] 'Hezbollah's 32-year leader' Nasrallah dies in Israeli airstrike… Middle East war clouds at their peak

Daniel 12:3

The Middle East is heating up with the death of Said Hassan Nasrallah, who led the pro-Iran armed group Hezbollah in Lebanon for 32 years, in an Israeli airstrike.

According to Reuters and AFP, Hezbollah announced in a statement on the 28th (local time) that Nasrallah had died.

In the statement, Hezbollah said, "Said Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah for nearly 30 years, has joined the great immortal martyrs." Hezbollah continued, "We will continue to fight against Israel to support the Gaza Strip and Palestine and to protect Lebanon and its people."

About three hours before Hezbollah’s official announcement, Israel announced that it had killed Nasrallah, along with his southern front commander Ali Karaki and his commander Mohammed Ali Ismail, in an airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on the previous day. The

Israeli military said Hezbollah’s headquarters was in the basement of a residential building in Dahiyeh. The Israeli military said the operation took place “while senior Hezbollah officers were organizing terror attacks against Israeli civilians from their headquarters.” Israel said Hezbollah was planning to infiltrate Israeli communities and kill and kidnap civilians. It

declined to say how many civilians were killed in the attack, saying it was unclear how many, but noted that “hiding behind civilians is part of Hezbollah’s operation.”

After the successful assassination of Nasrallah, the operation was named "New Order."

Upon hearing the news, the Palestinian armed group Hamas and Iran threatened retaliation against Israel. Hamas said, "The crimes of occupation and assassination only strengthen the determination and stubbornness of the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance forces to advance," and "We will pursue the path of resistance until the occupation ends and victory is achieved."

It also emphasized solidarity with the "axis of resistance." Hamas added, "We reaffirm our absolute solidarity and position with Hezbollah and the Islamic resistance forces in Lebanon," and "Hezbollah stands with our people and the resistance forces."

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei also threatened, "The fate of the Middle East will be determined by the resistance forces led by Hezbollah," and "Lebanon will make the evil enemies who invade and commit aggression regret their actions."

Iranian sources said Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei had moved to a safe location with increased security following the announcement of Nasrallah's death. The sources said Iran was in contact with Hezbollah and other allies to determine "next steps."

There are also concerns that if Iran steps forward after Nasrallah's death, conflicts in the Middle East will spread further. Ayatollah Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, Iran's deputy minister of international affairs, hinted at deploying troops, saying, "We will allow the deployment of troops in the Golan Heights on the Lebanese and Syrian sides."

If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want (Galatians 5:15-17)

Lord, with the death of the leader of Hezbollah, Nasrallah, we hear that the Middle East has reached a new height of warfare.

They fight to defend their people, but we worry that this is a path that leads to destruction, not lasting peace and victory, so we trust this to you, Lord.

We pray that You will answer our prayers and forgive all those who have sinned against Your Word and walked after the lusts of the flesh, and that all the peoples of the Middle East will walk after the Holy Spirit.
