Heavy rains in Nepal and India have triggered landslides and floods. At least 63 people are believed to have died as a result of the torrential downpours.

Heavy rains overnight have reportedly caused landslides and blocked roads, hindering rescue efforts. Flights have also been suspended, causing inconvenience to travellers.

In the capital, Kathmandu, rivers have overflowed, flooding homes near the riverbanks. Authorities are conducting rescue operations using helicopters and motorboats.

In the tea-growing region of Darjeeling in the Indian state of West Bengal, adjacent to Ilam, heavy rains overnight have triggered floods and landslides. At least 20 people are believed to have died as homes and infrastructure collapsed.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla, a member of the Indian Senate, said, "More than 20 people have lost their lives in the powerful cyclone that hit the Darjeeling hills."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I am heartbroken by the loss of life," and added, "We are closely monitoring the situation in Darjeeling and surrounding areas due to the heavy rains and landslides."

As roads are blocked by overnight downpours, hindering rescue efforts, we pray the Lord will strengthen all rescue operations.

May the Lord protect the affected areas from further damage, comfort the bereaved families, and let the souls of India and Nepal see God's protection.

May they realize who the true God is that we must hold onto and pray to, and may they kneel before God, who is Truth.

Grant that the peoples of Nepal and India may become nations that rely solely on the Lord, the Sovereign of all things, who reigns as King over this land.

As the global church unites in prayer over this heartbreaking news, Lord, help and work so that the great comfort of God may cover this land, and the gospel and material aid may be delivered here.

May all idols in Nepal and India be destroyed, and may holy worship praising only the Lord God resound throughout! May they proclaim that God alone is the one true God!
