[Today's Prayer] Flooding in Yemen... Over 900 Refugees Displaced - IOM

Updated: Nov 2, 2023

In western Hudaydah governorate of Yemen, heavy rainfall last week caused severe flooding and the destruction of shelters for over 900 domestic refugees, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on the 18th (local time).

IOM stated in a press release posted on X's account that they had provided emergency relief items to 135 refugee households and supported the restoration of damaged shelters for another 125 households.

The United Nations has emphasized that Yemen's existing humanitarian crisis, which has already been aggravated by internal conflicts, is worsening due to recent natural disasters related to climate change. Particularly, IOM explained that Yemen's vulnerable infrastructure has been damaged due to recent extreme weather conditions, and the supply of food and basic necessities is also in crisis.

But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; Lord, do not delay.

(Psalms 70:5)

Lord, we hear that the shelters of 900 refugees in Yemen are damaged by the flooding.

With the natural disaster that came upon the nation already weakened by the prolonged civil war, Yemen’s humanitarian crisis is worsening.

Lord, may the mercy of God come upon this people. You are the help and deliverer of Yemen, so do not delay!

In a situation where they cannot even receive a basic aid after losing their home to civil war and natural disasters, their hearts are thirsty and desperately seeking for hope. May you touch their hearts and give them the new life through the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the true hope.

May you pour out your mercy over Yemen and all nations suffering from flooding, that they may receive the relief supplies and the help soon. May the love of the cross be shared to them through the people of God.

Upon those that despair under unbearable circumstances, and upon those in the midst of fear of death, may you stretch out your hand and be their refuge.

May the Korean church and the global church pray for the suffering nations and go forward with the love of the cross, working together for the restoration and revival of the people!
