[Today's Prayer] Even If the War Ends, the Suffering Continues… Fear of Hyperinflation Sweeps Iran

While a ceasefire agreement remains uncertain, Iran is already preparing for the postwar period. However, there is growing concern that the economic and social shocks left by the war will not be easily resolved even if peace returns.

On June 6 (local time), The Guardian reported that Iran is facing severe postwar economic challenges, including hyperinflation, economic contraction, and power shortages.

According to reports, annual food inflation reached 130% in May, while the prices of meat and poultry surged by 176%. Health experts warn that declining dairy consumption is contributing to increases in malnutrition, osteoporosis, and stunted growth. In addition, internet restrictions are estimated to have caused at least two million people to lose jobs either directly or indirectly.

The country's electricity situation is also worsening. Arash Najafi, chairman of the Energy Committee of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, warned that maintaining production would require accepting two hours of power outages per day. Although the Ministry of Energy denied the possibility of planned blackouts, the government has introduced incentives, including a 30% discount on electricity bills for households that reduce energy consumption by 10%.

“If you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the Lord your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul—then He will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil.” (Deuteronomy 11:13–14)

Heavenly Father, we hear that although a ceasefire agreement remains uncertain and Iran is preparing for the postwar period, the economic and social consequences of the war may continue long after peace returns.

Lord, have mercy on the people of Iran who are carrying the wounds of war while also enduring economic hardship. Please care for families struggling because of shortages of food and daily necessities. Be a refuge for those who have lost their jobs and are living in despair. In the midst of Iran’s dry and difficult circumstances, pour out the rain of Your grace.

Restore the broken lives of the Iranian people, and let there be an abundance of grain, new wine, and oil.

May the church in Iran serve those who are suffering and reveal the love of God. Establish the Iranian church firmly as a people who love You with all their heart and soul and who obey Your voice. May they become channels of Your gospel and love, reaching out to neighbors in need.

Lord, may the global Church unite in prayer for Iran. Move believers around the world to provide food, supplies, and expressions of Your love to those who are suffering. As the physical and spiritual needs of the Iranian people are met, may they encounter Jesus Christ, the true source of hope. Bring salvation to the many who are living in despair.

May the Iranian people come before You and be raised up as holy witnesses who proclaim Your shalom and the gospel among all nations. Through the people of Iran, may all peoples come to worship and praise You alone, the Holy Yeshua. Amen.
