[Today’s Prayer] “Death to the Dictator!”… Iranian citizens shout for overthrow of the regime

For decades, the slogan “Death to America” (Marg bar Āmrikā) has echoed through Iran’s streets. Repeated in schools, on state television, and in street demonstrations, this slogan has become a symbol of the regime’s ideology, and is now the target of resistance by the Iranian people.

According to CBN News, citizens have now changed the slogan to “Marg bar Dictator!” Some analysts say the Iranian regime is at its most vulnerable since the 1979 revolution, with international isolation and extreme distrust among the people.

Lana Silk of the Christian group Transform Iran told CBN News of her traumatic experience as a child attending school in Tehran. “Every morning, we had to line up like soldiers and chant, ‘Death to America, death to Israel.’ It was literally state-sponsored indoctrination.”

In 2022, the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for not wearing the hijab properly, shook Iran. In the protests that followed her death, citizens began to chant against the Iranian regime, not the United States.

“After the recent US and Israeli airstrikes, many Iranians are asking, ‘Is this the moment? Is real change coming?’” Silk said. “The fruit of these slogans and ideologies has been suffering. The people are no longer fooled. What might have seemed like religious ideals in the past is now only a symbol of suffering and oppression.”

“The younger generation today doesn’t relate to slogans like ‘Death to America,’” said Mike Ansari of the Iranian missionary group Heart4Iran. “They say, ‘The enemy is within our own country,’ and ‘Death to the dictator.’”

Lord, we hear that the Iranian people's distrust of the Iranian regime has reached its peak. Restore your sovereignty over Iran, which is suffering under the tyranny of the Iranian regime.

As women whose lives were threatened under the Iranian dictatorship cry out for freedom through hijab protests, may God's kingdom come to Iran so that they may enjoy true freedom. Break the chains of oppression and let Iran dance before the throne of Jesus Christ, who reigns as King.

When the gospel of life is preached throughout Iran, may the proclamation that once called for the death of the dictator now become a proclamation that spreads the gospel to all nations. In the name of Jesus, may Iran experience the joy of forgiveness of sin.

May the Iranian church rise up to seek God's wisdom and pray for Iran, training leaders who will lead Iran to God's Word, so that through the Iranian church, many people may return to Jesus in a revival that continues until the Lord returns.

May the day when Persia and the nations are prepared as a pure bride to welcome the Bridegroom Jesus come quickly through Iran! May the FM1% arise to proclaim the salvation of the cross to all nations!
