[Today's Prayer] Bus Swept Away by Landslide Due to Heavy Rains in Northern India, Killing At Least 15

At least 15 people have died in a landslide caused by heavy rains in India, local authorities have announced.

According to AFP, AP, Reuters, and local media outlet NDTV on the 8th (local time), a massive landslide occurred the previous night in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, northern India, submerging a bus traveling on a mountainside road.

The state government announced that 15 people have been confirmed dead, including nine men, four women, and two children.

Rescue workers responded to the scene and rescued three injured children, who were taken to the hospital.

Approximately 30 to 35 passengers were reportedly on the bus at the time. Rescue officials are using excavators to clear away debris and search for the remaining missing passengers.

The landslide reportedly occurred after several days of heavy rain.

AFP reported that overnight, over 300 millimeters of rain overflowed rivers and triggered landslides in Darjeeling, a city in northeastern India's West Bengal state, killing at least 36 people and destroying approximately 5% of the region's world-famous tea plantations.
