[Today’s Prayer] 5th Nuclear Talks End ‘Empty-Handed’… US, Israel Continue Joint Attack on Iran

The fifth round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, held in Rome, Italy on the 23rd (local time) under Oman’s mediation, ended in failure due to differences over issues such as enriched uranium.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaydi said on his SNS X that day, “There has been some progress, but no decisive results,” and “We hope to resolve the remaining issues soon and move toward a common goal of reaching a sustainable and genuine agreement,” according to the Associated Press.

The negotiations took place at the Omani embassy in Rome from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The negotiations were led by Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy for the Middle East, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, representing the two countries. Although Witkoff left midway through the negotiations due to another schedule, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Bagai said that the negotiations “continued in a calm and rational atmosphere.”

The key issue in the negotiations, Iran’s enriched uranium, was ultimately not resolved. The two countries agreed to meet again in the near future to set new standards, reported the American online media outlet Axios. Minister Aragchi said on the same day, “This is too complicated a negotiation to be resolved in just two or three meetings,” indicating that additional negotiations are necessary. Before the start of the negotiations, he had stated that “we cannot give up our right to enrich uranium even if we receive stronger monitoring from international organizations.”

Unlike Iran, which has maintained its position that it will not negotiate the complete dismantlement of its uranium enrichment program, the United States is demanding that Iran not only reduce its nuclear program but also completely halt uranium enrichment. Iran has been enriching uranium in a limited way through the 2015 Iran nuclear deal ( JCPOA , Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).

“In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:3-4)

We hear that the U.S. and Iran have failed to reach an agreement on the complete dismantling of their uranium enrichment program that was part of the nuclear deal reached a decade ago.

We ask that You would allow the gospel to reach Iran, a nation that feels insecure and believes that nuclear weapons are the only way to protect itself, and that You would restore it to a nation that repents and fulfills the mission of the cross.

May the fear of the United States and Israel attacking at any moment leave Iran, and may they live by Your commandments, trusting in You who overcomes the world, not in physical strength. Grant the Iranian people eternal peace as they put their complete trust in You, the King of kings.

Pour out among the Iranian people the love of Jesus Christ, who forgave sinners, that they may lay aside their conflicts and strife, see Israel and the United States as You see them, and move toward reconciliation together.

That an abundance of grace and mercy may overflow among the Iranian people so that they may be free from distrust of other peoples, free from sin, and free to embrace and serve others.

We invite the church in the United States and the global church to pray for the people of Iran.

As the American and global churches commit to the salvation of the Iranian people and the revival of the cross, may the Iranian church be established as Your church that discerns Your Word and leads the nations in good ways.

Revive the Iranian church to be ready for martyrdom and to preach the gospel until You return!

Raise up Iranian church leaders and workers who are awakened to spiritual leadership and sent out as leaders of the gospel movement!

Please unite the Persian refugees scattered in various countries with the cross and send 1 million missionaries to Iran, 10 million Christians in Iran, witnessing the gospel for the Great Commission!

Raise up the last army FM in Iran to come before Your throne and fulfill the mission!
