The U.S. military said Yemen's Houthi rebels attacked two commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea.

On the 18th (local time), the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, "Two Houthi rebel attacks occurred against commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea."

“The chemical/oil tanker Swan Atlantic was attacked by a one-way attack drone and anti-ship ballistic missile launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen,” the statement said. “USS CARNEY, the closest US warship, responded to assess the damage.”

The statement also said, "At approximately the same time, the bulk cargo ship M/V CLARA reported an explosion in the water near their location. This attack was a separate incident from the attack on the Swan Atlantic, and no request for assistance was made." He added, “There were no reports of damage.”

There were no casualties in either attack.

The Houthis, along with the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah and Syrian and Shiite Iraqi militias, are considered part of the 'axis of resistance' supported by Iran. Since taking control of the capital Sanaa in 2014, it has effectively ruled most of the western Red Sea coast of Yemen.

On October 7, when Israel, following a surprise attack by Hamas, began a military operation against the Gaza Strip, the Houthi rebels expressed support for Hamas and fired several missiles at Israel. Since then, civilian ships linked to Israel passing through the Red Sea have also been targeted.

Several shipping companies have announced they will suspend all journeys in the area, raising concerns about a logistics crisis.

And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” (John 10:16-17)

Our Lord who is the Good Shepherd to all, we have heard that Yemeni Houthi rebels have attacked two commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea.

Fortunately, there were no casualties, but because of the war in Gaza, civilian vessels linked to Israel continue to be targeted.

Lord, cut off the thoughts and actions of the Yemeni Houthi rebels who are following the way of thieves and not of Jesus and seeking to kill and destroy the sheep.

May the love of Jesus Christ, who gave up his life to gain the sheep, cover the Yemeni people and end the lies, hatred, and destruction that are holding this land captive.

Put an end to their foolish actions of participating in the war and attacking civilians. Instead,

may they become people who bring others to life.

May the nation of Yemen receive salvation and find pastures through Jesus Christ who is not a thief but the gate for the sheep.

Please help us become a people who can lead other peoples who are not among us to Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
