Lebanon is considered one of the most beautiful countries in the Middle East and is often called the Paris of the Middle East and the Alps of the Middle East. In the Bible, it is in the region of Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey. The Lebanese are descendants of the Canaanites and the Phoenicians, who created the first alphabet. Lebanon is also the land of the cedars used to build Solomon’s temple.
Lebanon has the largest number of Christians in the Arab world. In the early days of Arab missions, it served as a strategic base where the Bible was translated into Arabic and published. However, today evangelical Christians make up only about 1% of the population. Due to the high birth rate among Muslims and the unstable situation in the country, many Christians now live overseas, which has increased the Muslim population proportionally.
Politically, the president must always be chosen from the Maronite Christian community, and Christians hold an important role in the nation’s structure. However, Lebanon’s political system is based on sectarianism, meaning political power is distributed among religious groups in order to maintain a balance between Christians and Muslims, creating a very unique governmental structure.
In 2025, Lebanon continued to experience Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah following the Israel–Hezbollah war that began in 2024. The Lebanese government attempted dialogue to persuade Hezbollah to return its weapons to the state, but Hezbollah strongly refused.
In 2025, tens of thousands of Shia Muslims gathered to mourn the Hezbollah leader who was killed by Israeli airstrikes, which greatly increased their anger toward Israel.
Then on March 2 of this year, Hezbollah launched missiles toward Israel, declaring it was “revenge for the blood of Imam Khamenei.” Israel responded as if it had been waiting for the attack, launching dozens of retaliatory strikes.
Since that moment, Israel has continued airstrikes dozens of times a day, focusing on areas where Shia Muslims live in order to eliminate Hezbollah. As a result, tens of thousands of people living in those regions have been forced to abandon their homes and flee for their lives.
Now Israel is conducting airstrikes wherever Hezbollah is believed to be located—even if the area is a Christian village. Because of this, Christians fear that they too may suffer harm due to Hezbollah and Shia Muslim groups, and they are increasingly wary of them.
In this situation, many Muslims are searching for places to escape, but there is nowhere to go. Their homes have already been destroyed, and they cannot return because they do not know when Israel may strike again. Even shelters for refugees are insufficient, and many who have lost everything are now sleeping on the streets.
“In a very short time, will not Lebanon be turned into a fertile field and the fertile field seem like a forest? In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see. Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord; the needy will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah 29:17–19, NIV)
Yet God will surely do a new work. He will destroy the ruthless, bring an end to the arrogant, and cut off those who seek opportunities for evil. Lebanon will become a nation that rejoices in the Holy One of Israel, the Lord alone.
In Region B, a weekly Saturday youth Bible study began last year. During one meeting, a Muslim teenage girl said:
"Because of my Muslim father, I had no choice but to live as a Muslim. But when I turn 18, I want to be baptized and officially become a Christian."
In Region A, young believers who come from Muslim families still participate in Ramadan fasting because of their families. However, they have realized that in previous years they fasted unconsciously out of habit. Now they are beginning to break away from those traditions with gratitude. When their parents ask, “Aren’t you fasting?” they simply smile and move on. Seeing this, we sense that their faith is growing.
God Himself is the savior of Lebanon. When they wait quietly for the Lord, they will realize that salvation does not come from people but from God. They will no longer rely on their own strength but will come to depend on God. During Ramadan, the enemy will try to blind the people of Lebanon by planting the idea that salvation can be achieved through religious acts. But in the end, there is nothing but death.
We believe that Jesus, who is our salvation, will meet the people of Lebanon. Even in their suffering, as they depend on God and pour out all their hearts before Him, we believe they will confess that the Lord alone is their refuge.
Soon Lebanon will become a fertile field that turns into a forest! May Lebanon rise up as a nation that carries out their calling as the key of heaven, opening every closed door!
[Today’s Prayer]
1. Lord, have mercy on the Lebanese Muslims who have lost their homes and are suffering because of the war. In these difficult times, help them to depend on God and find refuge in the Lord who is their shelter. Remove the lies that cover their eyes and hearts, and lead them to encounter You.
2. In these last days, may the churches of Lebanon rise up in the power of the Holy Spirit to fulfill the calling as the keys of the kingdom, binding and loosing not only for the Lebanese people but for all the Arab world. During Ramadan, protect every soul in the church community. Reveal the truth to those who are searching for it, and meet those who long to encounter the Lord so that this Ramadan may be filled with the good news of salvation. May the time of grace quickly come when Lebanon becomes a fertile field that is regarded as a forest!
