[Field Story] Afghanistan will Rise Up by Faith!

Hello! I am Rahul, of the Hazara people of Afghanistan.

I am a Christian. The Taliban have taken over Afghanistan, but I am still here to defend the faith.

A few years ago, my youngest brother believed in Jesus before me, and so I started to severely persecute him. I even threatened to kill him and even his friend who preached the gospel to him.

Meanwhile, our middle brother, who had been in Iran, returned to Afghanistan. But he also told me that he had heard of and believed in Jesus in Iran.

Though I was persecuting our youngest brother, my skepticism and hopelessness towards Islam had already reached a peak, and I felt that it was no coincidence that my other brother also believed in Jesus.

From then on, my brothers and I began to search for Christians in Afghanistan. We received a Bible from a Christian we finally met and started reading it, and soon, I also came to the realization that only Jesus, not the Islam I had believed in for so long, is the only Savior of the world.

Previously, I persecuted my brother for believing in Jesus, but now, by the grace of God, I too have repented, been forgiven, and believed in Jesus for salvation.

The current situation in Afghanistan is very difficult for everyone with the Taliban in power. Economically and religiously, everything is under extreme strain.

However, whenever we pray, we experience our God who answers our prayers and speaks to us. I trust God to gather together those of his body who remain in Afghanistan and to take care of us. Please pray for us, the Christians still in Afghanistan, that we may do God’s will with boldness and without fear, and for this land.

From oppression and violence he redeems their life,
and precious is their blood in his sight.
(Psalm 72:14 ESV)

Hallelujah! Lord Jesus, you have saved Brother Rahul, and we praise you for your grace that allows us to confess you as our only Savior! Thank you for meeting Rahul and his brothers, even as following you in Afghanistan means risking their own lives.

As Brother Rahul has shared, life under the Taliban is very difficult, but we believe that you, the true King of this land, will empower and take care of your people.

Please gather your body in Afghanistan to be together and to be witnesses to others, especially to the Taliban. May they not fight this battle of faith alone, but in unity, together in suffering for your name!

The Taliban seek to build the kingdom of Islam and try to destroy the church, but we know that the blood of your saints is yet precious in your sight! Even if we are to be martyred, through our lives and our deaths, may the sovereignty of our eternal God be revealed as victorious over the enemy and all things. To live is Christ, and to die is gain!

May the worship, prayer, and witness of your Afghan church become a light to all of Afghanistan as the whole country faces the oppression and violence of the enemy through the Taliban. Let Afghanistan see and praise only the one Savior Jesus Christ.

We believe that as the Afghan church lifts its voice to our Jehovah God, the sound of that hymn will resound throughout the nations, that all nations may rise up to worship Jesus as children, servants, and soldiers of God! Rejoice, Afghanistan! Rejoice, all nations! Your King is coming soon! Amen!
