Two trains carrying a total of over 1,100 passengers collided in southern Pakistan on June 7th, killing at least 35 people.
According to local media GeoNews, trains running in opposite directions collided with each other on the morning of June 7th near the city of Dark in the Gotki district of the Sindh Province.
According to AFP, a Milat Express vehicle derailed and fell over onto the railroad track next to it, and a Seid Express vehicle, running from the other side, came and collided with it. At the time, it was reported that a total of over 1,100 people, including wedding guests, were on the two trains.
The reasons for the derailment and the ensuing crash have not been specifically identified yet.
Pakistan’s railway minister, Azam Swati, told The Associated Press (AP) that “more than 35 people have been found dead so far.”
AP also reported that 15 to 20 people were still trapped inside the wreckage of the Milat Express train, and authorities said they will use heavy equipment to rescue them.
GeoNews said as many as 64 people were injured, adding that the death toll could rise further if rescues are unsuccessful or if some of the critically injured cannot recover.
A rescue train also departed from a nearby city to the scene of the accident. A medical support camp for treating emergency patients has also been established at the site.
On the video posted on social media (SNS), at the scene of the accident, military forces, police, and nearby villagers can be seen doing their best to move the injured to the hospital camp. Medical staff were also treating a passenger with their torso caught between broken chairs in the carriage.
However, the accident site is located in a remote place, making it difficult to quickly operate rescues.

The poor and needy seek water, but there is none,
Their tongues fail for thirst.
I, the Lord, will hear them;
I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
(Isaiah 41:17, NKJV)
Father God, we hear of many deaths in Pakistan due to a horrible train crash. There are even still people trapped inside the wreckage, and the death toll may rise.
Lord, would You have mercy on these people, and stem the death toll, at least until the gospel reaches them! Would You not let them die without hearing the gospel at least once. Open the door for Your people to bring the gospel to this land!
God, You say that You will hear and not forsake the poor and needy when they seek water and their tongues fail for thirst. Would You pour out the grace of Jesus Christ, who is the living water, as You look upon these thirsty souls. May they hear the gospel and receive wisdom to realize the truth of Your love.
Everlasting life is found in Jesus Christ alone! May Your grace fall upon Pakistan. May the Pakistani people receive Jesus Christ as living water for their thirsty souls! Amen!
