[Today’s Prayer] Turkey and China Face Conflict Over “Problem of Oppression of the Uyghurs”

China and Turkey are in conflict over the “oppression” of Muslim Uyghurs in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in China.

When two leading Turkish politicians from an opposition party posted on their Twitter accounts stating that the Chinese authorities were oppressing the Uyghurs, the Chinese embassy in Turkey posted a retweet of content that contradicted their accounts.

The Turkish Ministry of Affairs then summoned the Chinese ambassador from the embassy. In response, China held that the Chinese embassy’s response was justified.

The Turks and the Uyghurs are two people groups with racial, cultural, and religious ties. Currently, there are about 50,000 Uyghurs living in Turkey.

International human rights groups and the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (UNCERD) estimate that more than 1 million Uyghurs and other ethnic minority Muslims in XUAR have been detained in forced labor camps.

International human rights groups are criticizing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s for training Uyghurs to deny Islam through brainwashing and make them loyal to atheistic communism.

Western countries have insisted that forced labor using minorities is being carried out in XUAR, as well as torture, abortion, and even “massacre” or “genocide.”

During the presidency of Donald Trump, the United States of America (USA) officially announced that China’s Uyghur policy was genocide, and the newly inaugurated Secretary of State Tony Blinken has also expressed a position that he agrees with the former government’s statements about China’s treatment of Uyghurs.

However, Chinese authorities have consistently insisted that these camps are “humanitarian vocational education centers,” saying that reeducation camps are necessary to respond to terrorism and extremism, and dismissing the claim of “massacre” as “attacks against the Chinese government.”

12 And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, 13 and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.

14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.

(1 Thessalonians 5:12-15, NKJV)

Amen! Lord, we proclaim Your Word over XUAR, China, and Turkey. Oppression of the Uyghurs by the Chinese government has created hatred and anger between several countries. So many have been hurt, and some have been killed. This issue is not only relevant to China. Turkey and even the USA has pointed out that human rights abuses are happening to Uyghurs in China. This issue is starting to receive attention from the entire international community.

However, this problem cannot be truly resolved through man’s methods of rendering evil for evil. We proclaim power, forgiveness, and the blood of Jesus Christ over all the conflicts and wounds coming from this issue with the treatment of the Uyghur people!

Lord, send Your people to these lands who will preach the gospel and disciple with the love of the cross, which can comfort the fainthearted and uphold the weak.

Also, may the Uyghur young generation rise up as a church and unite under the gospel. Let them serve the weak and the powerless in all nations. May they warn those who are unruly yet be patient with all. Through them, may a new history of grace start!

Following the Silk Road from China to Turkey, let all history of sin and death be broken through the Uyghur church walking in the Holy Spirit! Lord, raise up Your young generation army from Uyghur who will pursue You to all nations at all costs! Amen!

Amen Lord let it be through the churches of Turkey, China, and the Uyghur people that we will see a great revival come upon this generation! May the global church be the ones who befriend and come alongside the Uyghur Muslims in their lowest moments, that Your love may reach them through us.
