Just before an agreed-upon three-day ceasefire between the Afghan government and the Taliban militant rebel group, which controls about half of Afghanistan’s territory, a suicide car bombing occurred in the eastern city of Puli Alam, killing 18 and wounding 22 people.
The Taliban officially said they were not responsible for the attack shortly after it occured.
According to foreign and local media such as Reuters, on July 31st, 17 to 18 people, including civilians and security forces, were killed in a suicide car bombing the day before in a market in the eastern Afghanistan town of Puli Alam in Logar province.
“18 people were killed and 22 were injured in the vehicle self-destruction act of terrorism,” said Hasib Stanekzai, chairman of the Afghan State Legislature.
“17 bodies and 21 freshly wounded people were brought to our hospital,” Sediqullah, a senior doctor at a hospital in Puli Alam, told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
“Crowds were shopping for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha,” officials and a medic said. “The bombing happened as crowds shopped for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, the biggest Muslim festival of the year.”
At the time of the explosion, security forces responded quickly to the stress. Local police said there was a terrorist targeting national security forces.
In particular, the attack took place right after the Taliban announced that it would hold a ceasefire for three days starting from July 31st.

And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.
God, 18 people were killed in another suicide bombing in Afghanistan. Lord! Save the Afghan people who are continuing to commit terrible crimes in loyalty to false idols, even by throwing away their own life!
May the name of the Lamb, who shed the blood of the covenant for the Afghan people, be quickly preached to those who are so hungry for salvation and truth that they are ready to give their own lives!
When this gospel of life spreads, let all the lies that have deceived Afghanistan flee at once, and let only the name of Jesus remain! Lord, would You restore the Afghan church so that they may now only be loyal to You, King Jesus, and spread the work of the cross to many people in Afghanistan and beyond to all nations! Amen!
