From now on, all people in China must go through face recognition for identification if they want to use mobile internet service through their new smart phone. The Chinese government, called the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), announced this plan this past September of 2019 and launched it starting from the 1st of December, according to reports from BBC news and other similar sources.
Chinese people already must show their personal ID card and their pictures whenever they buy a new smart phone or open a new mobile data service account.
The CCP claims that the identification checks are for confirming that turned in personal ID cards are identical to written records, in interest of protecting civilians’ just rights and benefits.
However, the CCP has been receiving criticism that these checks are being implemented to intensify their already tight surveillance system through face recognition technology, which is being continuously developed.
It is expected that the face recognition technology will play a major role in empowering the CCP’s reach of authority in China. In fact, its effects have already been revealed in the seeking out of exiles. Last year, Chinese law enforcement authorities caught one exile among more than 60,000 people in one concert.
News agency New York Times reported that the Chinese government has imprisoned more than 1 million ethnic minorities who were living in China, especially those living in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), located in northwest China, tracking down their every behavior using the face recognition technology.
While the Chinese government considers that it is natural and just to use face recognition technology, the side effects it has on society is showing, and controversies about the misuse of face recognition technology have been raised.
Law Professor Guo Bing from Zhejiang spoke up against Hangzhou Safari Park, claiming that they secretly used face recognition technology on people who purchased tickets.
This past September, there was a new agency report about one medicine school in Nanjing, in the Jiangsu province, that tried to use face recognition technology to monitor students’ attendance and attitude in classes. After that, the Chinese government promised to ban usage of face recognition technology in schools.
Above all, people are raising worries that mobile internet users will become targets for crimes.
BBC prospected that financial troubles and privacy violations will become more severe if personal information linked with photo identities get hacked.
And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.
1 John 2:17-18
Lord, we hear that the Chinese government has launched a system that requires facial recognition with all mobile usage, intensifying their surveillance system.
There are already more than 1 million ethnic minority people in China who have been imprisoned. It seems like the way to Jesus is prohibited and controlled as the surveillance system of the government grows more powerful.
However, God, we believe that you will let China become the nation that abides in you forever, keeping your will til the end, letting the world pass away along with all of its desires which go against you and try to become higher than you.
May those Chinese churches which you have alreary established in every corner of the country rise up as an army of the cross, piercing through the darkness of these end times!
Let the 1 million army of China rise up in every region of China, breaking the darkness of this age and accomplishing the kingdom of God with the gospel! We believe that you will make China a nation that will usher in your return with all other nations until the day of Christ! Amen!
