[Today's Prayer] Yemeni rebels, Houthis detain more than a dozen, UN and other international staffers

Yemeni rebel group ‘Houthis’, a pro-Iranian militant group, are reportedly detaining more than 10 local employees working for international organizations, according to a e-Daily article.

At least nine employees of United Nations-affiliated organizations have been detained by the Houthis in recent days, AP, Reuters and others reported. Three employees of the U.S.-based nonprofit National Democratic Institute (NDI), three local human rights organizations, and Save the Children were also reportedly held.

"Rebel officers stormed into their homes and offices and confiscated their cell phones and computers," Reuters reported.

The Houthis are a Shiite militant group founded in northern Yemen in 1994. The Houthis have been attacking merchant ships transiting the Red Sea since November last year, accusing them of supporting Hamas, the Palestinian militant group at war with Israel.

The U.S. has responded with Operation Protector of Prosperity, a multinational military campaign that includes airstrikes on rebel positions in Yemen. On March 30, the U.S. military, along with British forces, used warplanes and ships to strike 13 targets in rebel-held areas.
