Christian persecution in Yemen is intensifying again. Recently, reports have continued of several Christians being arrested or going missing in areas controlled by the Houthi rebels. Korean Open Door Mission shared the story of a local Christian named 'Majed' (pseudonym) and requested intercessory prayer.
The underground church in Yemen is one of the most persecuted communities in the world. Amid decades of civil war and the rule of extremist forces, Christians are constantly exposed to threats.
(Excerpt)
Nevertheless, Majed holds on to his faith mission rather than fear. Facing imminent arrest, he is focusing first on memorizing Bible verses and confessed, "Wherever I am taken, I want to be a walking Bible to share Jesus."
Although he could flee to a safe area, Majed still does not leave his region. He asked, "I can run away, but I must help others. If everyone leaves, who will remain to share Jesus' love?" He prays for his family and friends and expressed his intention to stay by their side to provide comfort and peace.
In areas controlled by the Yemeni Houthi rebels, it is common for those arrested to disappear for weeks, months, or even longer without any news. Many cases make it difficult to confirm life or death amid repeated torture and interrogation. Majed expressed deep concern, saying, "Even at this moment, brothers who served alongside me may be undergoing interrogation."
Majed confesses an unwavering faith despite the fear of arrest. He said, "Jesus said we would suffer in this world, but He promised victory. This is our faith."
He expressed gratitude to believers worldwide who pray for him and his community, emphasizing, "Prayer makes us strong." Finally, he said, "Yemen needs light. I hope God will lead those who suffer onto a bright path."

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us. [1 John 4:18-19]
Lord, we thank You for allowing the Yemeni church and Christians who, despite decades of civil war and ongoing threats under Houthi rebel control, confess with Jesus' heart and pray to proclaim the gospel even in the face of suffering and death.
Like Majed, who believes that Jesus suffered in this world and promised victory, may the Yemeni church rise up more and more in faith.
May Majed and the Yemeni church pray for the end of the ongoing war in Yemen, and may You empower them to advance with all their lives under Jesus' reign to renew the land under Houthi rebel control, so that even the dying souls of Yemen may come alive with the life of the gospel.
May the fire of prayer in the global church burn brighter, and may those who proclaim the gospel be sent without ceasing, so that the true shalom of Jesus Christ may now come upon the Yemeni people.
May Jesus' perfect love that casts out fear come upon every soul in Yemen, and may the Yemeni people rise up from the ends of the earth to proclaim the Lord's praise by loving Jesus with all their lives, following Jesus who loved with all His life!
