[Today's Prayer] "Why Lebanon Holds the Key That Will Determine the Future of the Israel-Iran War"

There are growing claims that the future of the Iran war, and whether an agreement can be reached to bring the war to an end, depends on what happens in Lebanon.

Although Lebanon has formed a second front in this war, it is increasingly emerging as a central stage in the conflict.

On June 8, as Israel and Iran exchanged attacks over a period of 12 hours, Lebanon once again came into focus, CNN reported on June 9 (local time).

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it would halt attacks on Israel due to pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump. However, Hezbollah, Iran's powerful regional proxy force, threatened to resume attacks against Israel if Israel does not stop its attacks on Lebanon.

If Iran follows through on these threats, Israel and Iran could soon return to war. Senior Israeli officials dismissed Iran's attempts to link the two fronts and pledged to intensify attacks against Hezbollah. Hezbollah is a pro-Iranian armed political faction based in Lebanon.

Iran maintains that the Lebanon front must be tied to U.S.-Iran negotiations. Since reaching a ceasefire agreement with the United States in April, Iran has further solidified this strategy.

In the early stages of the ceasefire, controversy arose over whether Lebanon would be included in the terms of the peace agreement. Iranian officials and Pakistan, which serves as a mediator, argued that Lebanon was part of the agreement, but Israel refused to halt attacks on Lebanon, citing its right to self-defense.

Ultimately, U.S. President Donald Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and warned him to cooperate in order to prevent the collapse of ceasefire negotiations with Iran.

As clashes between Israel and Hezbollah intensified and Israel threatened earlier this month to bomb Hezbollah targets in Beirut, Iran declared that it would suspend negotiations with the United States if the Lebanese capital were attacked.

Negotiations between Israel and Lebanon—including Hezbollah's disarmament, an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, and ultimately the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon—depend entirely on Hezbollah's cooperation. The recently concluded ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon requires Hezbollah to stop attacks against Israel and withdraw from southern Lebanon.

However, Hezbollah argues that Israeli forces must first withdraw from southern Lebanon.

Pakistan, which mediated the ceasefire negotiations between the United States and Iran, is also paying close attention to Lebanon.

Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir, who helped facilitate the ceasefire negotiations between the United States and Iran, met with the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces on June 5. Reports indicate that Hezbollah's disarmament, long demanded by Israel, was discussed during the meeting. The possibility of Pakistani military support for the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon was also reportedly on the agenda.

According to CNN, this symbolically demonstrates that Lebanon, along with Iran's nuclear program, navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and the release of frozen Iranian assets, is one of the issues that must be resolved in U.S.-Iran peace negotiations.

"Praise the LORD, all His works everywhere in His dominion. Praise the LORD, my soul." (Psalm 103:22)

As we hear that a second front has formed amid the conflict between Israel and Iran—between Israel and Hezbollah, the pro-Iranian Islamic armed faction—and that Hezbollah's willingness to cooperate with Israel's demand for disarmament may determine the future of the conflict,

we entrust the Iran war to You, Lord, the Sovereign Ruler of history. Have mercy on the souls in Israel, Iran, and Lebanon who live in fear and anxiety under the threat of renewed war.

Please bring an end to the indiscriminate attacks that drive countless people toward death.

Judge Hezbollah and Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, which seek to engulf Lebanon and Iran under Islamic law and continually attack Israel. Cut off the driving force behind this war.

Likewise, change the intentions of Israel and the United States, which seek to defeat pro-Iranian forces, so that they may instead fear the great LORD God and govern in ways that align with His heart.

May the government of Lebanon take its position with God's wisdom and order. May local churches in Lebanon teach biblical leadership. May they bless the Lord who created Lebanon and rules over it, and proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ, our refuge, to the peoples of the Middle East.

For this purpose, may the global Church devote itself to prayer and worship, proclaiming the victory that comes through Jesus Christ over every spiritual battle that lies at the root of the Middle East conflict. May believers praise the shalom of Yeshua the Savior and, as royal priests, personally set foot in the lands of the Middle East and build holy spiritual altars there.

And so, may Israel, Iran, and Lebanon become nations that rejoice in Yeshua, who saves from death and forgives all sin, eagerly awaiting the Lord's return and willingly preparing His way as "Maranatha" nations.
