[Today’s Prayer] ‘We cannot become human shields’... Young people in Myanmar attempting to escape the forced conscription of men and women

Recently, in Myanmar, two people died in a stampede outside a passport office as people competed to apply for passports first, and there were endless lines in front of foreign embassies.

On February 1, 2021, the military took power in a coup and imprisoned elected leaders, staining all of Myanmar with blood. And to this day, this civil war continues.

The United Nations estimates that thousands of people have died and about 2.6 million people have been left homeless.

And a mandatory conscription order was issued to young people in Myanmar who had played a leading role in the resistance movement against the military.

In response to this, there are many voices saying that this is a plan that the military has come up with as anti-government forces have united against the military in several key locations in recent months and the military has been struggling.

Robert (24), a civil activist in Myanmar, said in an interview with the BBC, “It makes no sense that military conscription is currently necessary. Because we are not at war with foreign invaders. We are fighting inside. “If we join the military, we will be contributing to their atrocities,” he said.

Accordingly, many young people in Myanmar want to escape the country instead of being taken by the military.

A teenage girl who was among the huge crowd gathered in front of the Thai embassy in Yangon earlier this year said, “Even though it was 3:30 in the morning, there were already about 40 people in line to apply for a visa.” And she says that in one hour, about 300 people gathered in front of the embassy here.

When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all. (1 Corinthians 15:28)

We praise Jehovah God, the Lord of all things and our Creator.

God, we heard that on February 1st, 2021, the Myanmar military staged a coup, took over the Myanmar government, imprisoned the elected leaders, and killed or injured many people.

In addition, due to the forced conscription of young people who are part of the military resistance movement, many young people are trying to leave the country, and two people have already been crushed to death due to the large crowd in front of the passport office.

God, the sin of self-exaltation has caused many people to be hurt and lose their lives.

God, please forgive all these sins and come in the midst of the Myanmar people to comfort and heal them.

Also, may the power of darkness that is binding Myanmar be broken down, and may God, who alone deserves all glory, be exalted alone in Myanmar!
