A cruise ship with 50 people on board capsized in Halong Bay, a famous tourist destination in Vietnam, killing 34 people and leaving 8 missing.

According to local media outlets such as VN Express on the 20th , a cruise ship with 53 people on board, including 48 passengers and 5 crew members, capsized in Halong Bay, Quang Ninh Province, northeastern Vietnam, at around 2:00 PM.

Vietnamese authorities sent a rescue team to rescue 11 passengers confirmed and that 34 people were dead. Rescue efforts are continuing to find the 8 people who are still missing.

At the time of the accident, Typhoon Wipha had just entered the South China Sea, and Halong Bay was experiencing strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning. Local media reported that the cruise ship appeared to have capsized due to the strong winds. It also reported that all the passengers were Vietnamese, most of whom were tourists from the capital city of Hanoi, and that about 20 of them were children.

A 14 -year-old boy was trapped in the capsized ship and was rescued 4 hours after the accident.
