Today's Prayer | U.S. "Defensive Strike on Drone Facilities"... Iran Attacks U.S. Military Base in Kuwait

The United States and Iran, which were reportedly close to finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a peace agreement, have once again exchanged attacks as negotiations face renewed difficulties.

According to Reuters, U.S. Central Command announced on June 1 (local time) via X (formerly Twitter) that it had carried out defensive strikes over the weekend against radar and drone command-and-control facilities located in Goruk and Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on May 31 that it had shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone that had entered Iranian airspace over its territorial waters.

Central Command stated that no U.S. personnel were harmed in the operation and emphasized that even during the ongoing ceasefire period, the United States would continue to protect its assets and interests in response to unjustified Iranian aggression.

The IRGC also stated that its aerospace forces had attacked the air base involved in the U.S. operation that targeted a communications tower on Sirri Island. While it did not specifically identify the target, it is believed to have been located in Kuwait.

Kuwait's state-run news agency KUNA reported that the country's air defense systems were intercepting missile and drone attacks. Kuwait hosts several major U.S. military bases.

Military clashes between the United States and Iran have continued despite ongoing peace negotiations. Last week, the U.S. struck Iranian drone operation facilities near the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran retaliated by attacking a U.S. Air Force base in Kuwait.

In addition, the war between the pro-Iranian armed group Hezbollah and Israel in southern Lebanon continues to be another obstacle to peace.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on May 31 that he had ordered Israeli forces to advance deeper into Lebanon in their fight against Hezbollah.

"Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; lovingkindness and truth go before You. Blessed are the people who know the joyful shout; O Lord, they walk in the light of Your face." (Psalm 89:14–15)

Father God, we hear the news that the peace agreement, which seemed close to being finalized, has fallen apart and that Iran and the United States have once again begun attacking one another.

Have mercy on Iran and the United States, who continue to strike each other's military facilities and bases and seek retaliation even while peace negotiations are underway.

Have compassion on the peoples of the Middle East who suffer amid bombings and death and who seek to destroy one another. May they cease from war and come to know that Jesus alone is our Savior and refuge.

May the churches in Iran, the United States, Lebanon, and Israel, which stand at the center of this conflict, not forget that righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne. Empower them to break the chains of violence and wickedness among the peoples of the Middle East through prayer.

May the attention and prayers of both the local church and the global church go beyond merely seeking an end to war and national security. Turn their hearts toward the suffering souls caught in the midst of this conflict. Lead them to weep together with Your heart and to take steps toward the places that matter to You.

And may the peoples of the Middle East come to experience the peace of Yeshua. May they rise as nations that rejoice with glad shouts and walk in the light of Your countenance. Amen.
