Turkey has embarked on drafting a legislative amendment to ban social media use by children under 15.

According to Turkish Daily on the 2nd (local time), a draft of the amendment prepared by the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services was submitted to the ruling party's lawmakers, and the legislative review process is underway.

The amendment stipulates that social media service providers should not provide services to children under 15, and measures should be taken to block their access, including age verification. For teenagers over 15, youth-specific services and mandatory parental control devices will be introduced.

Recently, in various countries around the world, the harmful effects of social media use on teenagers' mental health have become a social issue, and regulatory measures are being discussed.

Australia implemented an age restriction law in December last year to prevent children and teenagers under 16 from creating and logging into social media accounts.
