[Today’s Prayer] Tropical Storm 'Trammy' Kills 87 in Philippines, Heads for Vietnam

As the death toll from Tropical Storm Trami in the Philippines has risen to 87, Vietnamese authorities are tense as Trami moves toward Vietnam.

According to the Associated Press on the 26th (local time), local police authorities announced that 49 people were killed and 11 people were missing due to a landslide that occurred in Batangas Province in southern Luzon Island, Philippines, caused by heavy rains brought by Typhoon Trami.

In addition, 31 people died from drowning and other causes as several areas were submerged in water in the Bicol region in southeastern Luzon Island.

Five more deaths were confirmed in other provinces, bringing the death toll to 87, according to AFP, based on police and disaster management sources.

Philippine disaster officials said hundreds of villages on Luzon island were flooded, forcing about 495,000 people to seek refuge in shelters or with relatives.

He added that many residents were trapped on roofs of their homes and were waiting for rescue and assistance.

“The floodwaters have not yet receded,” said Andre Dizon, police chief for Bicol province. “We are still receiving calls for help.”

He added that several areas in Camarines Sur, Bicol Region and other places are underwater and inaccessible, leading to growing food and water shortages and reports of children already falling ill.

Lord, we pray for your compassionate grace among those who are grieving the loss of loved ones in the storm, those who are suffering from illness, and all Filipinos who are distressed by the disaster.

Only Your Word can comfort and save the Filipino people in the midst of difficult and hard circumstances. God, let the Filipino people remember Your word for the Philippines, Your word of salvation, so that they may put their hope in You alone in the midst of difficult circumstances, and let all fear be driven away through hope!

We pray that You will raise up a Filipino nation that stands firmly on Your Word! We pray that Your Word will renew the Filipino nation so that the church You have chosen in the Philippines, will be a church built on the Word and on the Rock! We pray that through the church in the Philippines, all ASEAN peoples will come boldly to You with Your Word! May You use the churches in the Philippines, even in the midst of suffering, to bring new life to those who have not heard Your Gospel!
