[Today’s Prayer] The “Thin Ice” of Gaza’s Peace… Israel and Hamas Blame Each Other

After two years of conflict, a peace agreement was finally signed between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. However, with both sides continuing to exchange accusations daily, peace in Gaza now feels as fragile as thin ice that could break at any moment. From the very first steps, the agreement was loosely assembled, and aside from the partial return of hostages, even the first stage of the deal has yet to be properly implemented.

According to Reuters, Hamas announced on the 16th (local time) that Israel had violated the ceasefire agreement by shooting and killing at least 24 Palestinians over the past week.

Hamas claimed to have submitted related evidence to mediating nations. The Palestinian health authorities reported that at least seven people were killed across the Gaza Strip that day, including two in Khan Younis due to an airstrike. A senior Hamas official said, “Israel is working day and night to undermine the ceasefire.” In response, Israel stated that some Palestinians ignored warnings and approached the ceasefire zones, and that the military opened fire “to eliminate threats.”

Hamas’s refusal to disarm has also become a major problem. According to the Financial Times (FT), since the withdrawal of Israeli forces, Hamas has once again asserted control over the Gaza Strip, patrolling the streets armed and masked. Recently, they even executed dissidents publicly in a marketplace, creating an atmosphere of fear.

As both sides continue their mutual accusations, peace negotiations have failed to progress to the next stage. Long-term plans once envisioned by President Trump, such as the establishment of an “international stabilization force” or a “Palestinian state,” have not even taken their first step. However, the Guardian of the UK assessed, “The first few weeks of the ceasefire will likely be filled with tension and unease, but Hamas and Israel still appear to support the truce.”

Although Israel and Palestine have signed a peace agreement, we hear news that peace rests on thin ice—Palestine accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire, while Israel claims it was caused by Palestinians ignoring warnings.

God, though a peace agreement has been made between Israel and Hamas, we still see conflicts that have not yet ended.

After so many years of ongoing strife, we rejoiced when peace was finally declared, yet due to unhealed wounds and anger, people continue to lose their lives.

Lord, we confess that only Jesus can resolve all this conflict and sin.

Hear the prayers of the churches in Israel and Palestine crying out in their suffering. May the long-standing conflict finally come to an end, and may You deliver them from their pain!

Save these two nations living under the shadow of darkness and death. Forgive all their sins that bind them, and help them forgive one another through the love of the cross!

Let the global Church join together in prayer for this cause, and may both nations experience healing and restoration through the love of Jesus. Lead them to come before Jesus, who hears their suffering, and raise up servants who will minister to the nations in pain!

May Israel and Palestine become one people united through the gospel and the cross!
