The rebels are seizing the opportunity to advance with fierce momentum in a situation where the Assad regime in Syria and Russia and Iran, which are behind them, are exhausted from the war in Ukraine and the armed conflict with Israel, respectively.

In particular, as Iran was hit by Israeli airstrikes over the past year, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which was behind pro-government armed forces in Syria, was killed, and Iran's arms supply to Syria was disrupted, so the rebels took advantage of this as a golden opportunity.

Russia's focus on the war in Ukraine is also a great boon for the Syrian rebels.

In a recent report, the Istanbul-based think tank Omran Institute for Strategic Studies noted Russia's difficulties in the war in Ukraine, stating that "its ability to provide effective support to the Assad regime is becoming more difficult."
