[Today's Prayer] Pro-government Commander Shatan Assassinated in Ambush in Southeastern Yemen

A senior military commander affiliated with the Yemeni government forces was killed in an ambush attack on the 18th (local time) in Yemen's southeastern Hadramout province, a local security officer informed Xinhua News Agency.

The officer, who requested anonymity, stated that Commander Ahmed Abdullah Shatan, an influential local tribal leader from Saada province in northern Yemen and affiliated with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, was killed along with his bodyguards in Hadramout province.

On that day, as Commander Shatan's vehicle was passing through a remote desert area of Hadramout, a group of masked gunmen stopped the vehicle and opened concentrated fire, the officer reported.

Photos from the scene posted on social media included images of the commander's four-wheel-drive vehicle riddled with bullet holes and the blood-soaked front seats where the victims had been sitting.

Commander Shatan was also one of the most well-known military figures on the government side, having fought the Houthi rebels for many years in the northern Houthi regions, including Saada province, according to the military source.

However, Xinhua News Agency analyzed that this incident shows that the aftermath of the civil war and the power struggle between the northern and southern factions continue in war-torn Yemen, and that pro-government figures remain at risk due to military clashes with Houthi forces.

Yemen has been in the quagmire of a civil war that began in late 2014, with Houthi forces occupying and governing several northern provinces and the capital, Sana'a. The internationally recognized Yemeni government, supported by Saudi Arabia, has been ousted from Sana'a and maintains a presence in the south, with the majority of the population relying on foreign aid for survival due to the dire situation.

"Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (Psalm 73:25-26)

We hear the sorrowful news that a senior military commander affiliated with the Yemeni government forces was killed in an ambush attack in Yemen's southeastern Hadramout province.

He was one of the most renowned military figures on the government side, having fought the Houthi rebels for many years, but ultimately lost his life to the Houthi rebels. We see that the long-standing civil war continues to put pro-government figures at risk.

In this deteriorating situation, where the majority of the population relies on foreign aid for survival, we believe that only the Lord can be Yemen's Savior.

In this chaotic political climate, may God govern Yemen and lead it kindly according to His Word.

Comfort all the suffering souls in Yemen and protect them in all areas of their safety and livelihood.

We pray that the global church will also support this land and strive in prayer. May we remember the peoples still suffering from civil war in this era, and may true peace come upon Yemen. May the power of the gospel of Jesus fill Yemen!
