[Today's Prayer] Powder Keg About to Explode... Pakistan Says "India Likely to Invade Within 2-3 Days"

ree

Amidst heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a shooting terror incident in a resort area of Jammu and Kashmir, a disputed territory between the two nations, Pakistan's defense minister has stated that India is likely to invade Pakistan within the next few days. Localized skirmishes have continued for several days along the border since the terror attack, raising concerns about the potential outbreak of a full-scale war.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistan's defense minister, told local media on the 28th (local time), "If something happens, it will happen within 2-3 days," adding, "There is an immediate threat." However, he also mentioned that war could be avoided, stating that China, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf states are working to prevent it.

In an interview with Reuters, Minister Asif also said, "We have increased our troop deployment because the situation is now imminent," noting the heightened rhetoric from Indian authorities and that the Pakistani army has reported to the government the possibility of an Indian attack. He added that the Pakistani army is on high alert and will only use nuclear weapons if there is a "direct threat to our existence."

Tensions between the two countries have escalated following a shooting terror attack on tourists near Pahalgam, a resort town in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, on the 22nd, which resulted in 26 deaths and 17 injuries. India accused the Pakistani government of being behind the attack, closed its border, suspended the Indus Waters Treaty (an agreement not to obstruct the flow of the Indus River into Pakistan), and pressured Pakistan by canceling visas for Pakistanis in India.

India and Pakistan have been in a territorial dispute over the Kashmir region for 78 years since both countries gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947. At the time of partition, the ruler of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh, was Hindu, but the majority of the population was Muslim. Singh initially attempted to maintain Kashmir's independence, but when Pakistani-backed militias invaded, he signed a document agreeing to Kashmir's accession to India in exchange for the deployment of Indian troops, and the conflict has continued ever since.

Kashmir is a region where opposition to the Narendra Modi government in India is particularly strong. In 2019, the Modi government revoked the region's semi-autonomous status and forcibly integrated it into the Indian Union.

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. (Psalm 42:11 ESV)

Lord,

We hear the news of a potential outbreak of war between India and Pakistan following a shooting terror incident in a resort area of Jammu and Kashmir, a disputed territory between the two nations.

As the long-standing conflict between India and Pakistan escalates due to this incident, we confess that the only way for peace to come to these two nations is through Jesus. May love that transcends all conflict and problems come upon these two peoples.

We pray that the life-giving gospel will be preached in India and Pakistan. Send those who will proclaim the gospel and unite these two nations through the gospel!

We lift up the churches You have prepared in India and Pakistan. In the face of an unstable political situation and the tension of a war that could erupt at any moment, may they not be discouraged or fearful, but place their hope in God alone! As they seek help from the Lord, use them as those who comfort their increasingly fearful neighbors with the gospel and share the love of Jesus!

May India and Pakistan now become one in Jesus

and rise up as nations that save all nations!!

May a million missionaries rise up from India!

May Pakistan rise up as a secret weapon of God's kingdom!!
