[Today's Prayer] "People are dying in large numbers"... At least 127 killed in clashes between government forces and rebels in Sudan
At least 127 people have died in two days of armed clashes between government forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary organization.
According to Reuters, government forces intensified airstrikes on RSF-controlled areas on the 9th and 10th (local time). RSF also raided and shelled villages controlled by the government. In the process, both sides attacked densely populated civilian areas, causing extensive damage.
The pro-democracy group Al-Fasir Resistance Committee announced on the 9th that more than 8 barrel bombs exploded in a market in the town of Kabkabiya in North Darfur Province, killing more than 100 people and injuring hundreds more. However, government forces denied responsibility for the Kabkabiya attack, but insisted that they had the right to attack any site used by the RSF for military purposes. RSF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Sudan, one of the poorest countries in the world, has been experiencing ongoing political turmoil as the military and civilians demanding democracy clash since the ousting of dictator Omar al-Bashir in a coup in 2019. President Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, who took power in a second coup in October 2021, fell out with Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the commander of the RSF who helped with the coup, and the RSF eventually staged a coup in April last year, starting a civil war.
Last month, the Sudan Research Group at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the UK announced that 60,000 people had died in the Khartoum area alone in the 14 months since the civil war began. The suffering of the Sudanese people is worsening as floods and famine overlap. The UN estimates that more than 30 million people in Sudan are in need of aid and 12 million have fled their homes.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Rev. 3:20)
Father God, the Lord of all the earth, 60,000 people have died in the civil war in Sudan over the past 14 months, and this time, we hear news that at least 127 people have died in clashes between government forces and rebels.
Please have mercy on the souls of Sudan, one of the poorest countries in the world, who have lost their families and homes and are living without hope in the endless suffering of war, and grant them the grace of end to the civil war quickly.
Father God, who responds to even the smallest groans, please let the poor in spirit hear your voice when they suffer and groan, and when they open the door, please bring about a work of salvation that has never been done before, so that they can become a people who live together with God.
So, let the churches and Christians in Sudan become those who spread the gospel in the midst of suffering, so that they live with the hope of heaven, not the perishable things of this earth, and let the African Church move forward together, looking forward to the Lord’s return.
In the last days, there are incidents of nations opposing nations and countries opposing countries in Sudan and all over the world. At such times, please let the global church wake up and pray, testify to all nations about the gospel of heaven, and prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
